And hell, it was considered rude to edit commissioned art, was it not? Now it's ok to feed it to AI?
What happened to just drawing references crudely in Paint? Did we lose that ability when gen AI was invented?

@razesatchel2 @Aria_i_Think Because unless you're talking about mass produced commercial art, art is an expression of someone's experiences, emotions, skills, it's often used to express feelings or admiration for someone/something etc. You get the idea. It shouldn't be optimized like doing Excel sheets.

I've accepted clients who wanted to commission me and send me AI generated references. Most of them got scammed and got AI stuff instead for the real art they paid for, some of them educated themselves about AI and decided to pay me to turn that AI stuff into real art

For me, if a client wants their AI stuff to be turned into art is already proof enough that they're in the right way

If you prefer to reject clients who use AI references that's OK! Just remember that you don't know their story 💕 communicate, ask them, talk to them, because maybe they have good intentions and by rejecting those clients they will have no choice but to relay on genAI

@daotakun @VeilVoyant Pretty sure I already said this, but you don't have full ownership over a commissioned piece. The 2 big rules is you absolutely can't commercialize it, and it is considered disrespectful to edit/draw over it. You must not engage in commission artist spaces often.

@TomatheHawk @VeilVoyant Except the backlash for gen AI makes more sense, as I said, gen AI and tools like Paint or Photoshop are fundamentally different.

I don't have to concede, because thats what I believe. Gen AI will never replace real artists because the demand will always exist (or so I hope).
