Apparently there was a secret proposal (publicly disavowed) under Calles to replace the military with a CROM-organized army? In Medin, citing Carr. Are there any more recent works that discuss this? A bit relevant to the use of union/business-backed "honorary inspectors" in cdmx.
Join us Tuesday to Thursday this week at @UNAM_Historicas for what promises to be an informative conference! Panels on topics ranging from 18th-Century militarization to criminal governance. Presentations will be broadcast by Históricas on YouTube.

Very pleased to announce that I'm now a published author in Spanish as well as English! Link in the post above to my new article on verbal criminal court procedure and popular legal culture in Mexico City, c.1878-1883. Be sure to check out the rest of the dossier, as well!

Had a great time yesterday presenting on how to think like a historian to high schoolers in Atoyac, Veracruz. The students were very engaged and had great questions. At a time when universities are shrinking programs, it's a good reminder that there's a lot of interest out there.
How do people who are between positions handle the "academic affiliation" section of a publication? If you're still a month or two out from your official start date somewhere, can you still give that as your position? Any advice would be helpful, thanks.
Very pleased to announce that I'll be taking a position as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the IIH at UNAM! I'm looking forward to continuing my research on the role of private power in the making of public authority in early 20th Century Mexico City.
Thank you to everyone who helped along the way in writing this—far more people than I could fit into the acknowledgements provided comments, answered questions, or otherwise offered support in ways big and small. I could not have written this without them.
Very pleased to announce the publication of my article on the policing of vendors in late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Mexico City in the Journal of Urban History!
