Labour and Civic Organization President Mlungisi Mancinza Claims President Cyril Ramaphosa Allegedly Gave Phakel'umthakathi R3 million in Ther Meeting

Labour and Civic Organization (LACO) President Mlungisi Mancinza has claimed that Phakel'umthakathi previously revealed President Cyril Ramaphosa had expressed interest in meeting him and was allegedly prepared to give him money. Speaking during a media briefing, Mancinza said Phakel'umthakathi told him around 23 May that he rejected the alleged offer, saying accepting the money would amount to selling the people's struggle. According to Mancinza, Phakel'umthakathi wanted the President to address concerns over illegal immigration instead of offering financial assistance.

Mancinza said he supported Phakel'umthakathi's reported decision and publicly commended him for refusing the alleged offer. He said the focus should remain on resolving the issue of illegal immigration rather than accepting money. He also praised Phakel'umthakathi's role in mobilising and leading people during the movement's activities.

However, Mancinza said events changed after Phakel'umthakathi met President Ramaphosa again on 29 June, before the nationwide 30th of June march against illegal immigration. He claimed few details of that meeting were made public and that repeated attempts by himself, as well as members of the March and March leadership, including Jacinta, to contact Phakel'umthakathi afterwards were unsuccessful. He alleged that reliable sources informed him Phakel'umthakathi had received R3 million, including an initial payment of R1.5 million before the meeting, with the remaining R1.5 million allegedly to be paid afterwards. He claimed the money was allegedly paid by the middleman, Bejani Chauke who is believed to be close to president Ramaphosa.

Mancinza said he decided to hold the media briefing because he could no longer reach Phakel'umthakathi to verify the allegations. While acknowledging Phakel'umthakathi's contribution to the movement, he said he would be disappointed if the claims proved true, as he believed accepting such money would amount to betraying the struggle of the people. These are allegations made by Mancinza and have not been independently verified.

Nkosikhona Phakel'umthakathi had claimed that President Ramaphosa only wanted to meet them because he wanted his assurance that there wouldn't be any violence in the planned nationwide protests. Phakel'umthakathi has also responded on Facebook after seing the allegations from LACO leader saying: "It's okay in my case I say the Lord is there and he doesn't make mistakes lies have short legs and the truth is for those who love him
