🗺️ EXPLORATION QUESTS
1. Visit a part of your own city you've never been to. You're a tourist everywhere except home.
2. Walk into a random bookstore. Buy whatever lands in your hand.
3. Find a rooftop and watch the sunset. No photos. Just eyes.
4. Explore a local market you always drive past.
5. Take a different route home today. New paths unlock new thoughts.
6. Find a hidden café no influencer has ruined yet. Make it yours.
1) No surprises below. For those who, unlike some of us, haven't believed in the Singularity (I've always been with Peter Thiel on this; it was only a matter of time), it's here.
2) Just as in physics, for every action there's an equal and opposite reaction. AI's potential for unparalleled good is matched by its potential for malefaction. More about this in a minute.
3) As an MD, I welcome AI's evolving infallibility, certainly relative to humans--even the most capable humans. And I'm also deeply concerned about the cognitive atrophy that's going to occur among those of us who outsource our intellectual work ever more fully to AI.
"Use it or lose it" applies at least as much to our brains as to anything else. Keep doing your own writing, for god's sake, to the fullest extent your life allows. Use your head and/or pen and paper for routine calculations in your daily life.
You may be glad someday that you did.
4) One good thing coming out of all of this is that perforce we will need to transact more in-person than is now the case, as that's the only way to ensure genuineness.
5) Finally, a warning from the late, brilliant, and I-hope-not-prescient-in-this-case Charles Krauthammer: When asked why we've never discovered evidence of civilizations elsewhere in the Universe, he said--entirely seriously--that it was because when beings develop to a sufficient level of sophistication, they destroy each other.
Prayers up for a better outcome. The dream for Americans, and probably for most humans, is to achieve prosperous stability as our lives progress, to see our personal worlds and the wider one become ever more peaceful and harmonious, with frictions and conflicts minimized.
AI can help us to achieve that, but the dark alternative will remain an ominous and ubiquitous companion. We'll be sleeping with one eye open as we witness this evolution, and there's no rest until it's resolved for the good.
Left side is a human lung. Right side is a tree.
The tree breathes in what the lung breathes out. The lung breathes in what the tree breathes out.
God's design is incredible.
BREAKING: ABC whistleblower allegedly will release an affidavit claiming the Harris campaign was given sample questions that were “essentially the same questions that were given during the debate,” as well as assurances that Trump would be “fact-checked” and she would not.
