You wouldn’t buy a car without airbags. Why settle for one without life-saving technology? Anti-drunk driving technology is the next standard. It’s time to implement the HALT Drunk Driving Law to
detect and stop impaired driving before tragedy strikes!
December 16, 2006. 17 years later Jake Boykin was pursuing his own doctoral hood when a drunk driver hit and killed him.

What you’re seeing here is one example of the groundbreaking technology the HALT Drunk Driving Law will bring to vehicles nationwide.
This system uses gaze tracking and attention monitoring to identify impairment or dangerous distraction the moment it happens - stopping harm before it begins.
Thank you to Seeing Machines and Dr. Mike Lenne for walking us through this incredible technology at our 45th anniversary celebration. Innovations like theirs will save lives.
NHTSA is releasing the fourth report on updating vehicle safety standards to support automated driving systems (ADS). This research will shape the future of safer, smarter vehicles.
As the industry rapidly evolves, NHTSA is inviting public input to shape the next phase of safety innovation.

The technology to stop drunk driving exists, but it’s still not in our cars.
Four years ago, Congress passed the HALT Drunk Driving Act to ensure no one could get behind the wheel impaired again. Today marks the second Congressional deadline for NHTSA to issue a standard for this lifesaving technology. The rulemaking was due a year ago, and another deadline passes us by today. We remain stuck in a holding pattern.
More than 10,000 lives will be saved every year once this technology is in place, and hundreds of thousands of life-altering injuries will be prevented. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, known as IIHS, has already announced plans to incorporate anti drunk driving technology into vehicle safety ratings. The roadmap is there. The urgency is clear.
But every day we wait, more families lose someone they love.
MADD is calling on NHTSA and automakers to act now. The time for reports and delays is over. The time to save lives is here.
We must HALT drunk driving for good.
