Suddenly feeling very moved over St. John Henry Newman’s feast day. One of the most influential saints of my life, having been some part of my formation for at least half my life and certainly my entire adulthood. And I got to go to his Canonization and everything. What a gift.

@sare_slay I learned early on in my CCD tenure that my class will likely have no idea how to use a Bible. Considering the Bible is the main focus of the curriculum for the year, that’s been my first lesson every year since that realization.
One died in a car crash with her husband when my grandpa was 19. He and his older sister defied all naysayers who tried to separate them and assumed guardianship of their 5 younger siblings (the youngest of which was only 18 months old) to keep their family together.
One lived till I was about 8 and I still remember her consistent presence at family gatherings. She is how I learned what a great-grandma is, after a cousin explained to me she wasn’t my “actual grandma.”
