Here is a summary๐งต of my experience in Khartoum #Sudan and beyond when the conflict erupted on 15 April!
- I Arrived Khartoum on 10th April, to take up a new role. I went to office on Tues, Wed and Thurs. Fri & Sat is weekend. Sunday is first day of the week and work.
In 1994, at the height of their civil wars, #Rwanda and #Somalia had the same level of GDP, around $750 million. Today Rwanda has a GDP of $13 billion versus Somalia's $8 billion. What made the difference? Kagame led reconciliation, higher stability & lower corruption in Rwanda.

I updated him on the regional situation & we had a good exchange of ideas on how best to support our organization IGAD.
During the official opening of #GHACOF63 today, I noted with concern the slow response in avoiding/minimizing the worst effects of extreme weather in spite of early warning information. I underscored the urgent need to invest in early action & building community resilience.
Received the heads of EOM of the @OIC_OCI & @arableague_gs the #Djibouti legislative elections. at @igadsecretariat this afternoon.
Assured them of our support as they embark on this noble exercise. #Election observation protects the integrity of election processes!
Good engagement with my brother H.E. @ymahmoudali, the foreign minister of Djibouti at his office this morning. We debriefed on the just concluded successful AU Council & Summit and our collective action to help accelerate regional integration within the framework of @AfCFTA.
I had a courtesy visit from the @_AfricanUnion Election Observation Mission for #Djibouti legislative elections this afternoon at @igadsecretariat.
We expressed optimism that Djibouti's fledgling democracy presents an important lesson for our region & beyond.
