I’ll be the one to say it—but anyone else notice how they had a vision for something and they didn’t just use AI to put it together? They put in actual physical effort? Just a thought
just analyzed 20+ iPhone Duo reviews that dropped today
here's what everyone agrees on:
1. it's the best-designed foldable anyone has made
the hinge opens flat, holds half-open and feels solid. the build is excellent. nobody had a bad word about the hardware itself
2. the crease is basically gone
the matte inner screen hides it, kills glare and stays readable in the sun. it's the feature almost every review singles out
3. it's heavy
254g, which is 53g more than the galaxy fold 8. 9to5mac says your wrist gets tired using it one-handed
4. the apps aren't ready
apple's own apps flow between the two screens perfectly. spotify, google maps and x still look like stretched phone apps
5. it's very clearly first generation
no face id, no telephoto, a cover screen too small to use on its own, and some bugs. nothing broken, just compromises
6. $1,999 is a lot
almost double the iphone 18 pro, and nobody pretends otherwise
the one thing they don't agree on: whether to buy it now or wait for the second one
buy now: cnet, engadget, tom's guide, mashable
wait: the verge, 9to5mac, mkbhd, wsj
my take: this is the iphone x of foldables. the shape is right, and the second one will be the one to buy
...i'm getting it anyway lol
The iPhone Duo reviews are some of the most brutal I've seen from an Apple product in a long time (Vision Pro aside). But I've been around long enough to remember the iPhone 5, iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone X. The app optimization issue is a non-issue and will be resolved in weeks.
@TechnicallyTee That’s sad. First-generation products this big are an awesome experience for those interested. I’m glad to be an early adopter for the iPhone Duo. Phones are becoming fun again!
