Wike’s confrontation with military officer undermines authority of Commander-in-Chief – Buratai

A former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd.), has faulted the alleged verbal altercation between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, and a uniformed military officer in Abuja, describing it as “a threat to national security and institutional integrity.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Buratai said the incident, which reportedly occurred on Nov. 11, amounted to undermining the authority of the Commander-in-Chief and could negatively affect military morale.

He said that public confrontation or disparagement of a serving officer in uniform by a political office holder was “an act capable of weakening the chain of command” and could set a wrong precedent for civil-military relations.

“A minister’s verbal assault on a military officer is an act of profound indiscipline that strikes at the core of our nation’s command and control structure. It undermines constituted authority and threatens national order,” Buratai said.

He added that the Armed Forces of Nigeria operate strictly on hierarchy, respect for uniform, and established channels of communication, noting that any action that weakens those values could compromise national security.

The former army chief said that the alleged incident “could not be dismissed as political theatrics,” stressing that the uniform represents the authority of the Nigerian state and the sacrifices of men and women serving the country.

Buratai called on Wike to issue “an immediate and unequivocal public apology to President Bola Tinubu as Commander-in-Chief, to the Armed Forces, and to the affected officer.”

“Our nation’s security must always come first. The integrity of our Armed Forces demands nothing less,” he added.

As at the time of filing this report, there had been no official reaction from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) or the Office of the Minister regarding the allegations.

Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA discovers over 60 bodies after deadly air strike on bandits in Zamfara

Troops of the Nigerian Army have discovered more than 60 bodies of suspected bandits in Zamfara State during exploitation following a deadly air strike by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) as well as mop up operations by the surface troops.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the discovery was made on Monday afternoon at Matseri in Anka Local Government Area by personnel of 1 Brigade and 8 Division Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YANMA.

The operation, which followed intelligence-led air interdictions by NAF on Sunday, targeted a large concentration of armed fighters believed to be preparing to attack Nasarawan Burkullu community in Bukuyum LGA.

Sources said that the troops, guided by air component surveillance, recovered over 60 corpses and several body parts burnt beyond recognition at one of the strike locations.

“More than 30 burnt motorcycles and a large cache of rifles completely destroyed by fire were also found,” the source said, adding that exploitation was ongoing in other strike areas.

Zagazola reports that the NAF strikes were part of a coordinated operation against more than 400 terrorists, including several notorious kingpins, who had converged in Makakkari Forest across Anka and Bukuyum LGAs.

The coordinated assault, involving both air and ground forces, neutralised over 100 terrorists in total, with many others fleeing with injuries.

According to the source, the operation has significantly disrupted the bandits’ operational capability and thwarted a planned retaliatory attack following recent clashes with security forces.

“Banditry thrives on fear and impunity,” the source said. “This operation is a clear message that both will be dismantled, one step at a time.”

8. Cybersecurity Measures: Implement robust cybersecurity measures to prevent hacking and unauthorized access to Starlink services.

9. Public Awareness: Conduct public awareness campaigns to educate citizens about the risks of using Starlink for criminal activities.

10. International Cooperation: Collaborate with international partners to share best practices and address global security concerns related to satellite services.

By taking these proactive steps, the Nigerian government can effectively prevent the misuse of Starlink satellite services by criminal groups and ensure the safety and security of its citizens.
