Sikh - no hatred towards any religious group
Hindus and Sikhs are brothers. Separate religions, different beliefs, and different practices but still brothers.
"Those who say Beant Singh DGP Gill finished terrorism are mistaken. Their action were directly responsible for fanning the Khalistan movement abroad." @SandhuKanwar Sr Journalist & Editor who covered militancy from bignning to 'The End.'
@AdityaMenon22@darab_farooqui
@keshavbedi Pogroms and Massacres are single events that occur.
If they occur multiple times, it becomes a genocide, which happened sikhs to in the 80s and 90s.
Family of Gulshan Kumar, who was abducted by Punjab police and killed in a staged encounter on July 22, 1993, came to Harike Pattan and attended Ardas ceremony.
They were helped by Shaheed Jaswant Singh Khalra and his family to fight case of extrajudicial murder of Gulshan Kumar
Family of Gulshan Kumar (who was abducted by Bittu’s grandfather’s police and killed in a staged encounter on July 22, 1993) today came to Harike Pattan and attended Ardas ceremony.
They were helped by Shaheed Jaswant Singh Khalra and his family to fight case of extrajudicial murder of Gulshan Kumar.
They are asking why Beant Singh or @RavneetBittu did not fight their case.
This is an example of how politicians in Punjab have selective memory and are partial with their words. When it comes to Khalra murder she says she doesn’t know if it’s true or not but when she gives examples about killings of different community she is assuming them to be true🤔
There was no conviction because, as the records show, nobody was ever charged for this anti-Sikh pogrom. My thread contains excerpts from the testimony of one victim’s mother and Justice Ajit Singh Bains of the PHRO, who investigated and concluded Shiv Sena and BJP involvement.
I attach excerpts from the Nagrik Ekta Manch Delhi report A Warning from Bidar (October 1988), which clearly shows how BJP and Congress leaders shut down investigations. They propped up allegations that many of the Sikh students - mostly from Delhi and UP - were terrorists, and even claimed a BJP leader wanted to build a parallel hospital where the Sikh one stood. A list of suspects given by victims includes Shiv Sena, RSS and local administration names.
BJP is playing good cop and bad cop with Panjab in general and Sikh community in particular. They are doing everything possible to polarise Hindu community.
They share stage with Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale’s successor but vilify normal Sikhs in his name.
They let loose rabid Bittu to fuel communal division in Panjab and now instructed leaders like Lalpura to play good cop.
So, how many terrorist incidents in Punjab have happened since Satluj's release?
How many people have started terrorist organisations?
In truth, the only terrorist organization in Punjab could be the Bajrang Dal, which has its centers throughout the state.
From 14–16 September 1988, six Sikh students of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College in Bidar, Karnataka, were brutally murdered and lynched. Another 30–42 Sikhs were injured and roughly 85 Sikh households, along with historical gurdwaras such as the one dedicated to Mai Bhago, were desecrated and destroyed. Damages exceeded one crore rupees. Victims later said the unprovoked pogrom was perpetrated by local Hindu extremist mobs led by the RSS and Shiv Sena.
Jaswant Singh khalra collected record of 2500 people from various crematorium just in 3 districts because policemen foolishly were burning the corpses in official shamshan ghats and the local chokidar kept records marking bodies as "unknown" with their ages and known body birth marks
this was proven in the Supreme Court
these were verified 2500 people in just 3 districts out of 23
This does not include the corpses thrown in rivers by police
This is a shitty take but let’s take it at face value.
What’s wrong if it is about the votes? In any civilized country, what’s wrong with saying “do not vote for those who oversee or whitewash a genocide”?
The Sikhs of Punjab have been carrying the pain for decades. Satluj merely shares a story which has been buried for decades. Why are everyone’s pants on fire suddenly? Because the truth is bitter and it makes us confront dark chapters of our own past?
As far as the allegation of “rekindling anger” goes, what exactly does it mean? That people’s wounds will automatically heal by burying the past?
Sardar Jaswant Singh Khalra was murdered by the system. Why? Because he exposed the murders of thousands of innocents by that same system.
Where exactly is the “debate” then? There can be NO JUSTIFICATION for what happened in Punjab.
There’s only two kinds of people who justify atrocities by the system:
1. Those who have lived in a bubble & have perpetually benefited from the system (no matter who is in power)
2. Those who played an active role in whitewashing atrocities in the past & now feel uncomfortable when they’re exposed
There’s no third type. So makes you wonder…
On 13 January 1989 in Jammu Sikh Nagar Kirtan on Birth Fay ofGuru Gobind Singh ji was attacked by a "mob" . 13 Sikhs murdered , 140 vehicles 100erds of Sikh owned shops looted set on fire ..
For 6 hours rioters had full free hand
one-member commission of Justice A Ansari gave a report in 1 year was never made Public for over 30 years ??
Why ? No justice for 30 years ..
Films Like TheKashmirFiles & others are celebrated despite concerns of deepening social divisions. But portraying the mass disappearances & fake encounters become 'dangerous' becos it may rekindle anger. This asymmetry reflects what might be called monopoly over victimhood
Future generations will wonder how, in the world’s largest democracy, defenceless people were left to endure four days of unimaginable brutality, followed by a cover-up that pretended nothing had happened. India, this stain on history cannot be ignored. #Satluj
