Promoting freedom. Seretse Khama, the 1st president of Botswana, created the fastest growing economy in world history through policies of individual freedom.
Studying markets led Elena Leontjeva to a clear conclusion: private property is essential.
For markets to work organically, ownership and independence must be protected.
@MYANC In SA in the 1990s,1994 election was drawing near n we wondered if the ANC had learnt any lessons from the failures of independent Africa to the north. It hadn’t.We wondered if it would repeat all their failed policies. It did. So we had lots of socialism and little capitalism.
Pan-Africanists on social media: “The West destroyed Africa! Neocolonialism everywhere!”
Also Pan-Africanists: *posting from London, Paris, or New York*
You left. You saw how things work there. Roads are maintained, hospitals have medicine, courts actually function, police don't shake you down for bribes.
Did you care enough to ask why?
Did you ask yourself: “Wow, this country is prosperous, how come they have this and we don’t? What can I learn from this country?”
You wrote another thread about 1960 while back home people are sitting in darkness because there’s no electricity, university graduates can’t find jobs, hospitals don't have basic medicine, and the roads are so bad they destroy your car.
But sure, let’s keep blaming the West for problems happening right now.
You know why you’re not going back?
Because you know nothing works there.
The power cuts every single day, educated people are unemployed, hospitals can’t treat basic illnesses, and the infrastructure is falling apart.
And deep down you know whose fault that is.
It's the people running things right now, TODAY, not 60 years ago.
But that conversation is uncomfortable, so you blame the West instead.
And you know who absolutely loves this?
Your leaders back home.
Every hour you spend blaming the West is an hour you’re not demanding answers or holding anyone accountable.
You’re literally the shield protecting them from criticism.
They steal and you blame the West. They fail and you blame the West. They build mansions while people sit in darkness and you blame the West.
You’re not fighting for Africa, Mr. Marxist Pan Africanist.
You’re just part of why Africans stay poor.
People throw out the usual excuses for why Africa is poor.
“Colonialism!” “Resource curse!” “Geography!” “Culture” “Low IQ!”
These are lazy answers that avoid the real issue.
The actual reason is that we make it nearly impossible to create wealth.
Want to start a business? Pay fees equal to half your annual income. Wait months for permits. Bribe five different officials.
Want to trade? Face tariffs that double the price of everything.
Want electricity to run your business? Good luck.
You can’t build prosperity when the system fights you at every step.
Every generation thinks they invented caring about the poor.
Then they support the same failed policies that kept previous generations poor.
As a friend of mine said: “Having a heart for the poor is easy. Having a mind for the poor is the challenge.”
By 2030, Africa will make up 80% of the world's poor.
This is not inevitable, it’s a choice.
And if we make the right choices, Africa can become a global hub of innovation, growth, and prosperity.
Every person must read “The capitalist revolution Africa needs.” (The Economist)
Let’s break it down 👇🏾
Democrats should find a better political strategy besides accusing political opponents of hate (racism, misogyny, homophobia, xenophobia etc). They're now so used to this tactic that they even accused black men not backing Kamala of misogyny!
It's childish intellectual laziness.
@wdunlap@LauraLoomer Jamaican Americans are African Americans though. 'African American' just means your original place of descent is Africa (especially through slavery).
94 year old Thomas Sowell was able to write a cogent and deeply insightful article for the WSJ *within just a few HOURS* of the Trump assassination attempt! At 94! Since your IQ is technically a mental comparison with people your age, Sowell's IQ has to be legitimately above 200!
