Revolutionary optimism is a wajib. It is our duty to remain optimistic and commit to the belief and SURETY that Palestine will be liberated.
Our daily commitment is a psychic alignment. We must name every single process that allows revolutionary moments, such as the keynote speech by Sana' Daqqa, to occur. This prevents us from commodifying despair and defeat.
Every time you feel yourself stop, it is a reminder that one of the oppressive systems is working on you. Even simply acknowledging this is a way to reject the psychic intrusion of isolation.
- Lara Sheehi at the People's Conference for Palestine, Cultivating and Sustaining Revolutionary Optimism
@GovParsonMO Stop the execution of #MarcellusWilliams!! Do not put this innocent man to death- @innocence project has been representing him for years bc he was wrongfully convicted. Do the right thing, Gov Parson. Do not let history show you as a murderer of the innocent.
Vouchers have never won by popular ballot, so no, most parents or citizens do not want these. Further, this concern about choice is always to me a red herring because one, they still don’t have the choices of wealthy people as the vouchers don’t pay for the types of schools wealthy or middle class parents sent their kids to. And two, they remove choice from all the other kids whose parents want to stay in public schools by taking away much-needed funding and sometimes leading to closures of neighborhood schools. Lastly, I’ll say again: public funds are for a public good.
Stop playing with us. Not only do students who go to private schools on vouchers not perform better, 1 out of 5 leaves the private school and actually see improved academic results by returning to the public school.https://t.co/oYqQvKBoND
I really wish rich, out-of-touch folks who nothing about education would just stop. 1) Read the fine print. THIS IS A GOVT VOUCHER PROGRAM. Voucher programs have not been shown to improve results for poor Black children because most cannot get into high-quality private schools. 2) Read the fine print. All of the money is coming from taxpayers, ie. the government. Roc Nation is not funding this, it is just launching an educational campaign that maybe it is being paid to do. I'm researching. But certainly, it's involvement is to convince poor Black parents to leave the public schools. 3) What do you think that $300 million could do for improving those low-performing public schools? 4) It is a lie that these programs do not take from public-school funding. Fewer kids in the classroom means fewer dollars to the school. 5) This is a windfall to the city's private schools at the expense of the public ones that most kids attend.
BREAKING: Israel's Minister of National Security just confirmed that his plan is for the IDF to expel all Palestinians from Gaza.
This is the genocidal government that Joe Biden and the Democratic Party backs, funds, and arms.
@SenGillibrand sounds unhinged on @BrianLehrer show this morning- repeating blatant lies Israeli govt has pushed that have been debunked over & over re the nature of Israeli occupation of Gaza & West Bank. Blaming the ppl of Gaza for “electing terrorists” despite 40% being kids
Where is FIRE? Where are all the people so worried about repression of campus speech and academic freedom? This is just deplorable. Society is regressing and we should all be appalled.
I don’t have any inside information about al Shifa hospital, which is currently being raided by Israeli forces, but here is some context: In 1983, Israel built an underground operating room and tunnels under the hospital. This is not a secret. Israel has claimed that over the years Hamas added more underground floors and tunnels to the original ones built by Israel. Last weekend, the NYT published a story saying Israel had shared images with the paper depicting alleged secret entrances to the tunnels, though the Times said it could not independently verify them.
On Tuesday, the US said that it has its own intelligence to back up the claims and NSC spokesman John Kirby alleged it is a Hamas/Islamic Jihad command and control center and a site to hold hostages. Al Shifa Hospital staff have denied these claims. (For what it’s worth, so has Hamas.)
Such allegations by the US should be backed up by clear evidence, not a Geraldo Rivera/Al Capone’s vault-style video presentation featuring an English speaking IDF soldier, as was the case with the video Israel released about al Rantisi Hospital (a key allegation from that “discovery” has already been proven false). No matter what is or is not found, there is no justification for the repeated attacks against civilian hospitals—in fact Shifa is the largest hospital treating the most vulnerable people in Gaza, including NICU babies. The mere existence of tunnels, originally built by Israel, does not prove the specific allegations made by the US or Israel.
The standard for such evidence should be very very high. The Biden administration made allegations about Al Shifa Hospital to offer preemptive cover for Israel to raid it and the onus is on the administration to provide irrefutable, clear evidence to support its specific claims.
@BrianLehrer! Collective punishment is a war crime. Period. Doesn’t matter what justification is used, collectively punishing 2.5 million Palestinian people with no water, no food, no electricity is a war crime. It’s against international law. Cmon. https://t.co/zQPcAYxa0g
@AllOfItWNYC that this doc exists w/o #ReneeBach in jail is ridiculous. White American woman went & caused the deaths of more than 100 Ugandan children who needed serious complex medical care. White supremacy writ large. Should’ve talked to the Ugandan founder of @nowhitesaviors
The #tribals are fighting the forest department’s permission to the businessman to uproot the trees and cart them to #Hyderabad for sale to rich clients, with each tree costing about ₹10 lakh.

@BrianLehrer LED lights are a nightmare for my migraines. Many of us migraine sufferers have issues with LED lights. The overbrightness, the blue color tone of many light bulb, and cool vs warm is a trigger for my migraines. Once the sun starts to go down, it’s a problem 😩
The doors were locked.

The police arrived in minutes.
Covenant school had everything that MAGA GOP assured us prevents & stops mass shootings. And 3 babies & 3 adults were murdered in seconds.😳

it isn't about debating issues.
other shows could do that.
it's talking about what the results of those broader societal and political debates would mean for people.
the mission: create a space where voices could be heard, when they weren't being heard before.
communities that needed it could get in on a national conversation.
guests would be equal partners with our hosts and listeners. and we would talk it out.
"What's the takeaway, for the humans that live in the situation?"
it's a simple premise but pretty useful as a guide.
and for the communities that heard their voices for the first time on our show and others like us...it matters. it mattered to us. still does.
