@_groww Please allow PSU banks such as SBI, Canara Bank, etc. for transactions as well. Currently, other platforms only allow transactions through private banks like HDFC, Axis, ICICI, and Kotak for US market.

Checklist before buying a stock 🧵

A good company is not automatically a good investment.

Before you buy, run through this checklist:

1/ What exactly am I buying?

Can I explain the business, its revenue model and its industry in 2 minutes?

2/ Is the business getting better?

Look at revenue, margins, ROCE/ROE, cash flows and per-share earnings not just the stock price.

3/ Does it have a moat?

Brand, cost advantage, distribution, network effects, switching costs or some structural edge.

4/ Is the balance sheet strong?

Debt, interest coverage, working capital and cash generation. A great business can still be destroyed by leverage.

5/ Can I trust the management?

Capital allocation, related-party transactions, dilution, acquisitions, pledging and how management treats minority shareholders.

6/ What is the valuation?

A wonderful business bought at a ridiculous price can still produce terrible returns. Estimate what the business is worth not what you hope the stock will become.

7/ What is the bear case?

Write down the 3 things that can permanently impair your thesis. If you can't find them, you're probably not researching hard enough.

8/ What does the market expect?

High expectations are hidden risk. Ask: What has to go right for today's valuation to make sense?

9/ Why now?

A great company can remain a bad investment for years if the entry price, cycle or earnings trajectory isn't right.

10/ What makes me sell?

Define the thesis-breakers before you buy. Otherwise, conviction can quietly turn into attachment.

The final question:

If the stock falls 25% tomorrow, would I be excited to buy more or would I panic?

If you don't know the answer, you probably haven't done enough work yet.

Buy the business.
Understand the valuation.
Respect the downside.
