This afternoon, we recognised and honoured the enduring service and contribution of The Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller with the official naming of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security headquarters as the Portia Simpson Miller Building.

Mrs. Simpson Miller dedicated many years of public service to the advancement of Jamaican workers, families, and communities. As Minister of Labour, former Prime Minister of Jamaica, and Jamaica’s first woman Prime Minister, she helped strengthen labour relations, social welfare, and social protection systems that continue to support the Jamaican people today.

This dedication is a fitting tribute to a leader whose commitment to service has left a lasting mark on our nation’s development and public life.

🚨🚨Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced that the Western Children’s Hospital will be named in honour of former Prime Minister the Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller, recognising her pivotal role in securing the transformational partnership with China that helped bring the project to life.

Speaking at the MLSS Naming Ceremony, Prime Minister Holness acknowledged that it was Simpson Miller who travelled to China, led negotiations, and returned with the agreement that laid the foundation for what is now one of Jamaica’s most significant healthcare developments for children.

The decision stands as a historic recognition of national service, bipartisan progress, and the enduring impact of leadership dedicated to improving the lives of Jamaican families and children.

The Western Children’s Hospital is expected to play a critical role in strengthening paediatric healthcare services across western Jamaica and the wider country.
