وزیر اعلیٰ پنجاب مریم نواز کی ترجمان عظمی بخاری نے وضاحت کی ہے کہ مریم نواز نے دورہ برطانیہ کے لیے حکومت پنجاب کے جہاز کے اخراجات اپنی جیب سے ادا کیے ہیں۔ یہ وضاحت عذر گناہ بد تر از گناہ کے مترادف ہے۔ سرکاری جہاز نجی مقصد کے لیے استعمال کرنا ہی غلط ہے۔ اخراجات جیب سے ادا کیے یا نہیں کیے یہ تو سوال ہی بعد کا ہے۔ سرکاری جہاز صرف کارِ سرکار کے لیے دیاجاتا ہے۔ یہ تو ایسے ہی ہے کہ سرکاری گاڑی میں پٹرول ڈال کر سرکاری افسران اپنے خاندانوں کے ساتھ ناران کاغان گھومنے چلے جائیں۔ کیا اس کی اجازت دی جا سکتی ہے؟ نہیں تو پھر سرکاری جہاز نجی استعمال میں لایا ہی کیوں گیا؟ سوال یہ ہے۔

History gave the subcontinent three giants.

Only one of them never compromised his principles to win.

Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

As a lawyer he was in a different category entirely. Called to the Bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1896 at age 20. One of the finest constitutional minds British India produced. He represented Hindu and Muslim clients with equal skill. He argued on the floor of the Imperial Legislative Council with a precision that made British administrators uncomfortable. His arguments were built on law. Not emotion. Not mass mobilisation. Law.

Gandhi's legal career produced one notable case in South Africa and then pivoted to politics. Nehru never practiced law at all in any meaningful sense. He was a barrister by qualification only.

As a man of principles Jinnah's record is unique.

He refused to wear Indian clothes to court to make a political point when Gandhi asked him to. He said the law required dignity. He meant it.

He offered to share power with Congress repeatedly through the 1930s. Every proposal was rejected. When Nehru said the Muslim League was irrelevant in 1937 after Congress swept the provincial elections Jinnah spent three years proving him wrong through constitutional means alone.

No civil disobedience. No hunger strikes used as political weapons. No mass arrests engineered for public sympathy. Constitutional argument. Electoral organisation. Legal precision.

As a human being the contrast is sharpest.

Jinnah kept his tuberculosis secret for twelve years. Not for vanity. He said it himself. So that the Hindus would not wait for his death. He sacrificed his health and his remaining years to complete the work. He died thirteen months after Pakistan was born. Weighing less than a hundred pounds. Having given everything.

Gandhi's personal conduct toward his wife and his experiments are documented in his own autobiography. Nehru's personal life was the subject of significant controversy throughout his political career.

Jinnah's personal conduct was irreproachable. He dressed impeccably. He spoke precisely. He kept his word.

As a politician Jinnah achieved something neither Gandhi nor Nehru could.

He created a nation from a minority position. Without an army. Without territory. Without a functioning government. Through argument, organisation and sheer force of legal and political will he took the Muslim League from a marginal organisation in 1937 to the representative of 100 million Muslims by 1946.

Gandhi and Nehru had a Congress machine built over decades, a majority community behind them and the moral prestige of the independence movement.

Jinnah had a briefcase and a principle.

He won.

The New York Times and international press consistently described Jinnah as the more precise, more legally rigorous and more constitutionally serious of the three leaders.

History gave the Indian subcontinent three giants.

Only one built something from nothing.
