@mylindler @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD7 YES YES YES!!! My friend and I talked about this today and I think many teachers especially within the psyc department have made a point to make their classes more inclusive and use their standing as a professor to spread awareness but ALL teachers should advocate!!
@DrewFromPsyc220 @psyc220 #CD7 I am surprised more people don’t talk about this issue!!! I feel like everyone knows and understands that it IS an issue that happens within the industry but no body talks about it I think this was a great response!!
And I would want to provide for my possible kids and teach them the value of money and what it means, but also teach them that money isn’t everything. However until then I am able to vote, sign petitions and spread awareness to those around me (5/5)
#CD7 @psyc220 One of my big goals for the future includes being able to financially support myself. I feel as though people who are able have a surplus of money are able to afford their own wants in life and can go through different paths of achieving their wealth.(1/5)
However they have greater power to potentially reinforce negative values. My goal is to first support myself without thinking about any surplus. Then, if I somehow gain an excess of money I’d support organizations that stand for something, travel to help the less fortunate (4/5)
While others with greater fortune have the freedom and flexibility to spread awareness of social issues (ex. Influencers). I’m not saying those able to provide for themselves and their goals within politics and healthcare inherently adhere to social stigmas surrounding (3/5)
For me, I simply want to be able to support myself and my own goals. However, those in jobs with a surplus of money can adhere to social stigmas of various groups (ex. Politics and businesses), some may deny or not believe their colleagues or consumers (ex. Healthcare) (2/5)
@ChloeSwan17 @psyc220 #CD6 @psyc220 I agree!! The video touched on this as well and I think another key thing to point out is gender. Black men are more likely to be targeted AND the narrative for men is to be strong and not show emotions which I think is important to add!!!
@marissahart23 @psyc220 #CD6 @psyc220 YESS!!! I took an honors seminar on gender in leadership and we dove into this issue! It’s not only unfair but such a slow process and I don’t believe it should be?!?!!!!
The comments now being made incorporate negative views from both sides of the web because I am not a part of the majority and these comments can negatively affect people (3/3)
@psyc220 #CD6 one axis of oppression I’ve experienced is gender and religion. Not only are women judged for their choices due to religious ideas, but when you are also a part of a religious minority (ex. Judaism) your ideas, behaviors, family and physical characteristics (1/3)
Become judged based on that as well. Ex. As a Woman im judged for how I act and my everyday stuff but when you throw religion in then I’m not only judged for just being a woman but I’m also judged based on the stereotypes associated with my family’s religion (2/3)
@allie_pritz @psyc220 #CD5b @psyc220 I think this proposed policy by McAuliffe is important for people trying to get the care they need!! I was only able to find policies Youngkin discussed, however both candidates have similar proposals, hopefully the proposed policies are followed through!
@allie_pritz @psyc220 #CD5a @psyc220 I COMPLETELY AGREE!! I think there is so much more to do to address the barriers for people with disabilities at jmu. I think no matter how many videos they play saying jmu is a place where all people are equal, the floor isn’t open to actual address the issues
Because it was difficult to find information for policy proposals involving disabilities on Youngkin’s Website, same for Terry Mcauliffe. (Granted the information could have been there and I could have just missed it) (4/4)
@psyc220 #CD5b Glenn Youngkin wrote a letter to the community addressing disability neglect within Virginia and his plan to advance opportunities for people with disabilities. One of his proposed actions is to support organizations such as Virginia Ready and Project SEARCH (1/4)
By creating more job opportunities and adhering to the Americans with Disabilities Act within the state to improve Virginia’s history of neglect towards people with disabilities. However, I think more could be said or addressed (3/4)
