@Aislingg05 @psyc220 #cd7 @psyc220 i think becoming a lawyer would be an incredible way to fight for people on an individual, local, state, and national level! you’d have so many opportunists to fight back against oppression, i love this
2/2 to manipulate women. i would want to take a stand against sexual harassment and abuse in the music industry. i’d be sure to foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels safe and taken care of. inclusive messages in promotion and from the artist themselves travel miles
#cd7 @psyc220 one big goal, or dream of mine, is to work in the music industry. it is well known that large amounts of male artists use their power and following to sexually abuse women. these artists use cultural messages such as song lyrics and abusive patterns of thoughts
@psyc220 #CD6 This goes to show how dynamic intersectionality really is. It all depends on the context of the country and which intersection of identity you are looking at
@psyc220 #CD6 I think an interesting intersection to study is religion and socioeconomic status. In the United States, the wealthiest religions are Judaism and Hinduism. 44% of American Jews and 36% of Hindus live in households with a total income of $100,000 or more. 1/2
@psyc220 #CD6 I found this very interesting as Christianity is the dominant religion in the United States and seen as the cultural norm. This led me to believe that Christians would have the highest percent of representation in the upper class
@Dakotapsyc220 @psyc220 #cd5b @psyc220 I noticed this on McAuliffe’s website too! I feel like an increase in Medicaid and affordable prescription drugs wouldve definitely helped to remove societal barriers for individual with disabilities. Also it was difficult to find any policies on Youngkin’s page
@ChloeSwan17 @psyc220 Yeah same! I haven’t thought about it much either until this assignment but I found it strange how the buses don’t have accessibility for handicapped individuals
#cd5a @psyc220 #CD5a @psyc220 To my knowledge, our public transportation has no accessibility for people with disabilities. It would be extremely difficult for a disabled person to get across campus. The university’s classrooms also don’t have proper accessibility features
#cd5b @psyc220 On Terry McAuliffe’s website under the Affordable Health Care tab, his policies aim to strengthen Medicaid and increase mental health resources. I think this would help remove barriers for individuals with disabilities as they would have greater accessibility
@MeganHutcheson7 @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD4 I 100% agree with you that feminism has a huge role in eliminating oppression against women and gender minorities!
@KyleeWig220 @psyc220 #cd4 @psyc220 I like your point on how feminism comprises a multitude of intersectional problems in our society and around the world. We need the existence of feminism as a grounds of solidarity for minorities who are experiencing oppression
@psyc220 #CD4 feminism has a huge role, if not the largest role in ending oppression against women and gender minorities. after all, the objective of feminism is to raise awareness of and eliminate all forms of oppression. solidarity is the strongest weapon against oppression!
@peter3ha @psyc220 #cd3b @psyc220 So true! We can’t even have productive conversation in the news or the media anymore because it’s just a bunch of harsh terms and outlandish stories thrown around to divide people!!
@KyleeWig220 @psyc220 #CD3a @psyc220 Kylee, I think it’s really important how you mentioned history here. The phrase goes “History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes.” I think this quote speaks volumes here. If we take a look back, we can understand a lot about our current position today.
@velasqea @psyc220 #cd3a @psyc220 It’s super cool how your dad is a diversity trainer! I love how you touched on the point of education because that’s what I believe is the answer too.
#CD3a I believe one of, if not the best way to counter racism is education. As stated in our textbook, race is a social construct has no biological standing. People love categories, and racism was created by white Europeans to categorize and classify people for their own power.
