#CD5b @psyc220 Inspiration porn is EVERYWHERE and JMU is no exception. Pictures like this designed to make generally a led-bodied people feel inferior is nowhere near equality or even remotely touching the idea of ending stigma. (pt 1)
#CD5a @psyc220 At JMU I honestly don’t notice a whole lot of disability inclusion. Sure, there are ramps into buildings and wheelchair straps on busses but I still think stigma runs rampant here. Interestingly enough i think that comes with the massive emphasis on mental (pt.1)
#CD3b @psyc220 This!! People romanticize immigration in the media constantly. There is so much we wouldn’t be able to do as a country without immigrants but that doesn’t change the stigma we throw at them as a country and frankly it’s disgusting.
that are the people fueling racism. Only when people notice and she’s light on their own biases can we overcome racism. Biological biases don’t entirely exist, this is a classic nature vs. nurture argument.
#CD3a @psyc220 I think the fact that people exist that don’t believe in racism are a true testament to the stronghold racism has had on the US for centuries. It is people like this that feed racism, ethnocentric people who believe they can be color-blind
#CD2b Internalized homophobia is a huge issue in the US. People who identify with the LGBTQ often face incredible scrutiny. Even more so for people with “different” identifications like Non-binary people. This can lead to lack of jobs and mental health issues for these people.
@SchourekCandace @psyc220 Also, people completely ignoring their biases aren’t helping the situation either. It’s better to acknowledge the bias and try to become more objective than to claim you don’t see the differences.
#CD1b @psyc220 Marginalization can be seen in Afghanistan. Women and girls are being denied most access to education by the Taliban. Additionally, it is being accepted because women are being “allowed” to participate in low-level government work which is seen as sufficient.
#CD1a @psyc220 Here is a perfect example of a common excuse in not acknowledging cultural differences. Being “blind” to skin color causes more bias because it inhibits peoples ability to see unjust patterns within society. This is a. example of the liberal view of culture.
@SchourekCandace @psyc220 People only care about price. The poor quality of Shein clothes is completely disregarded because people only pay $5 so they don’t care. It’s huge to spread light on WHY these clothes are so cheap and at what cost.
#HelloWorld If I could travel anywhere to experience any culture, I’d go to Thailand! I grew up eating Thai food and I would love to try authentic Thai street food! @psyc220
