.@KamalaHarris: “When you are a black child in America going to an HBCU during that phase of life, it is an environment in which everything tells you you are special. You have a legacy to which you owe a duty and must honor, and much is expected of you.”

“For the kids who saw her, it said: you belong anywhere."

A THREAD 🧵
I spoke with Governor Walz today, and what was clear — as it has been throughout his career — is that his decisions are always guided by what’s best for the people of Minnesota.
Tim has spent his life in public service putting Minnesotans first, leading with integrity, compassion, and a deep respect for working families. His decision not to seek reelection reflects that same selfless commitment to the people he serves. I want to thank him for his extraordinary leadership.
Doug and I wish Tim, Gwen, and the entire Walz family the very best in their next chapter. Our country is stronger because of Tim’s service, and I am deeply grateful for his friendship.
Five years ago, an armed mob stormed the United States Capitol. Inspired by lies and hatred spewed by Donald Trump, they used brutal violence and intimidation in an attempt to overturn a free and fair election. And since returning to office, Trump pardoned the insurrectionists who betrayed their country.
January 6, 2021, showed us how fragile our democracy is. We, the people, must fight back against Donald Trump and his cronies as they sow chaos and fear among the American people. We cannot stand idly by as they strip our fundamental freedoms, enrich themselves on the back of working people, and destroy our reputation around the globe. And we must continue to do the hard work to ensure our democracy survives.
Let me be clear: Certifying the presidential election on January 6, 2025, was one of the most challenging moments in my career. Yet I never — not for one second — considered any other action. Because the American people had spoken. And in our nation, the power is and must always be with the people.
Today marks one year since the devastating Eaton Fire and Palisades Fire began.
I am thinking of the 31 lives lost and their loved ones, the survivors still rebuilding, and the heroic first responders who worked around the clock to help keep communities safe.
Californians know all too well the devastating impact of wildfires, and we know recovery is not easy. We will continue to stand together as we rebuild.
Today in Minneapolis, ICE agents shot and killed a woman in a shocking incident. Governor Walz has announced the state will ensure a fair investigation, and I am grateful for his swift action.
Many of us have seen the horrifying and painful video, which makes it clear that the Trump administration's explanation of this shooting is pure gaslighting. A full and fair investigation at the state level is absolutely necessary.
For nearly 45 years, Steny Hoyer has represented the people of Maryland's 5th congressional district with conviction, tenacity, and heart. He has made life better for millions of Americans, especially through his instrumental role in passing the Affordable Care Act and Americans with Disabilities Act.
Thank you, Representative Hoyer. Doug and I wish you and your family all the best in this next chapter.
On January 15, 1908, nine visionary women at Howard University established a sisterhood that has changed the lives of countless women — including me. And for 118 years, we have continued to lead around the world, with purpose and in service to all mankind. Happy Founders Day!
Donald Trump’s actions in Venezuela do not make America safer, stronger, or more affordable.
That Maduro is a brutal, illegitimate dictator does not change the fact that this action was both unlawful and unwise. We’ve seen this movie before. Wars for regime change or oil that are sold as strength but turn into chaos, and American families pay the price.
The American people do not want this, and they are tired of being lied to.
This is not about drugs or democracy. It is about oil and Donald Trump’s desire to play the regional strongman. If he cared about either, he wouldn’t pardon a convicted drug trafficker or sideline Venezuela’s legitimate opposition while pursuing deals with Maduro’s cronies.
The President is putting troops at risk, spending billions, destabilizing a region, and offering no legal authority, no exit plan, and no benefit at home.
America needs leadership whose priorities are lowering costs for working families, enforcing the rule of law, strengthening alliances, and — most importantly — putting the American people first.
