76 years ago, Thailand answered the call to defend South Korea

On 22 October 1950, Thai troops departed by sea to join United Nations forces in the Korean War. Thailand was among 21 countries that sent military support to South Korea and the first Asian country to provide assistance.

Known as the “Little Tigers” for their courage and resilience, Thai soldiers served alongside allied forces in harsh conditions.

A total of 11,776 Thai personnel took part in the war, with 125 killed, 318 wounded and five reported missing. Thailand marks Korean War Memorial Day every 22 October to honour those who served.
