@jasonmcgowan@CoachJayHill Jay's impact on BYU has been tremendous. But I'm most impressed with his wife's story and her partnership and assistance to him after his health scare that echoed his partnership and assistance to her during her's. Their story is inspirational and reflective of the values at BYU.
BYU defeated that 9-4 TCU team, who just beat #16 USC, by 31 points… when TCU had their starting QB.
11-1 in the regular season with their only loss coming on the road to a Top 5 opponent.
These bowl results are making BYU’s already egregious snub from the CFP even worse by the day. All because the SEC (2-5 in bowls) needed 5 bids.
Objectively, how do you defend this:
Miami (10–2)
– ESPN SOS: 45
– ESPN SOR: 14
– Did not play for a conference championship
– Losses: Two 8–4 teams (SMU, Louisville)
BYU (11–2)
– ESPN SOS: 22
– ESPN SOR: 9
– Played in the Big 12 championship
– Losses: No. 4 Texas Tech on the road & in the Big 12 title game
Notre Dame (10–2)
– ESPN SOS: 44
– ESPN SOR: 13
– Did not play for a conference championship
– Losses: Miami (who lost to two 8–4 teams) & No. 7 Texas A&M
We will not let Notre Dame unethically steal it from us
We will not let ESPN Propaganda win the day
We will not let the Committee rob us.
When fairness and honestly are nowhere to be found BYU will take matters into their on hands and take it on the field.
@Ivan_Maisel Ivan Maisel's return to covering the sport at On3 shows his continued passion for elevating the college football conversation. #cfplovebomb
Just in case you missed, BYU is 11-1, 15th FPI, 6th SOR. https://t.co/QocACQWXlz
Having BYU behind ND makes college football figure skating or gymnastics. You don’t even need to play the games. It’s so dumb. BYU plays in a power conference. Tougher schedule. They have less losses and better wins. Ruins the whole sport. #provodave#byuscrewed
The committee made it abundantly clear it’s not merit based. The playoffs is just the cool kids club and BYU isn’t perceived as a cool kid. ND and the SEC are the cool kids. The whole thing is a sham
If you're going to penalize a 1-loss Power Conference team for a weak strength of schedule... BYU's SOS is better than Ole Miss and Notre Dame.
If you're going to penalize a team for not having the strongest power ratings (which incorporate prior year's history and recruiting rankings)... BYU's FPI is higher than Oklahoma's.
If you're going to penalize a team for a non-competitive / bad loss... Alabama lost by 14 to a team with a losing record and Miami lost to two unranked teams.
If you're going to use strength-of-record like you indicated you would, BYU's SOR is the second highest of teams 6-12.
BYU also (1) made its conference championship game and (2) if you sum up the wins of the teams it has beaten, it is THIRD in the country. It is hard to win games and BYU has beaten a lot of teams with a lot of wins.
This. Makes. No. Sense.
The @CFBPlayoff should be ashamed of itself. It has literally contorted itself into a pretzel to avoid putting BYU where it should be ranked (somewhere between 6th - 9th).
RT to get the info out there. They need to feel pressure.
Looking back at the LAST 30 YEARS, no 1-loss P4/P5 team has ever been ranked as low as BYU at #11 in the AP poll at the end of the regular season
All other year's lowest-ranked 1-loss teams ended with an AP ranking between #3-10, & there's a strong correlation between better AP ranking and better SOS... except for BYU, who showed better than average figures for all schedule strength data points, yet somehow received the lowest ranking on record
I utilized the weekly poll data from the College Poll Archive site and used the Colley Matrix for SOS data since it's the only one I could find with historical weekly data
I stopped the search at 1996 due to the data getting irregular with many "ties" in the records prior to that year and the confusion between the pre-Big12 conferences

Honest thought
Penn State’s offer to Kalani Sitake should’ve resulted in a surefire hiring that the other program couldn’t even think to match
Personally.. in this situation, I think almost every program would’ve let their HC walk and understood why…
BYU’s really the lone exception. A bunch of sports crazed maniacs who want nothing more than to win but do it with their family.
It took an entire community to completely flip the script here and give them a chance at retaining their HC after a monster and “desperate” PSU offer.
I respect BYU’s hunger, drive, passion, and sports community so so much. A lot of athletics programs could learn a thing or two from these guys.
@jasonmcgowan@kalanifsitake I went to the recruiting rollout in Kalani’s first year but there weren’t enough seats so I sat in overflow. He came into that overflow room, talked to each of us, and made us feel included and important. He didn’t need to do that. It’s a microcosm of who he is.
