At Erin McKeever's conscious media salon in Ojai yesterday, several people said they had never had this conversation before. And they were excited about the possibilities.
Erin asked how we can define conscious media if it's not the same for everybody. It meets you where you are in that moment. Set an intention for what you want from what you watch, then notice what it actually does to you. That's the whole practice.
Erin is a generous and thoughtful host. Her introduction made me lightly tear up five minutes in. Hearing her share the work I've done through the years in this space made me feel, not for the first time, like I'm on the right path.
You're invited to join me on Sunday Sept 13th in Ojai, CA to talk about conscious media, salon style hosted by Erin McKeever.
The afternoon is built around how the stories we create might contribute to humanity's flourishing. It's an exciting conversation I'm looking forward to having with you.
If you're either in the media/entertainment worlds or you care about humanity's flourishing (I assume that's you 😉), this seems like a good place to spend a Sunday afternoon.
This is the first outing the Convos community has been invited to, so let's make it a fun one.
In Santa Barbara / Ojai / Ventura? we'll be in your backyard. Join us.
From LA? I'm driving up. So let's caravan or carpool. Comment or DM me.

A delightful & restorative feature documentary about the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu spending five days together, mostly making each other laugh.
A Tibetan Buddhist monk and a South African Anglican archbishop. Opposite upbringings, different continents, different faiths, roughly nothing in common on paper, except that faith carried both of them through the worst of it.
Watch this on a day when the news has gotten to you. It's ninety minutes of two men who had every excuse to be bitter, being the opposite of that, and explaining how.
That's this week's conscious media pick, made by four Academy Award winners. It's directed by Louie Psihoyos, whose "The Cove" won the Oscar for Best Documentary. It grew out of “The Book of Joy,” which the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Tutu wrote together with Douglas Abrams.
Give it a watch when you want to feel better about humanity, you're looking for some inspiration, or you're wanting a dose of resilience.
Find it pretty much everywhere.

@japan_nobunaga Kiso-ji! And the inns are run by 17th generation families feeding you the same menu served to travelers centuries ago. It is a little piece of heaven on earth.
Conscious Media Pick of the Week... I HEART HUCKABEES
A wacky comedy that asks whether everything's connected, or everything means nothing at all.
Envision hiring private detectives to decode all the strange coincidences in your life... And they are trying to convince you that everything in the world is connected and has meaning... But they have a rival who believes the opposite... And then hilarity ensues!
That's this week's conscious media pick from multi Oscar-nominated director David O. Russell. It has a fantastic all-star cast: Jason Schwartzman, Isabelle Huppert, Dustin Hoffman, Lily Tomlin, Mark Wahlberg, Jude Law, Naomi Watts, Jean Smart, Richard Jenkins, Jonah Hill, Talia Shire, Isla Fisher, Shania Twain, and even Tippi Hedren.
Give it a watch when you want some diversion and escapism OR when you want to ponder the bigger question of what any of it means.
Rent it on Prime or YouTube.

Peter Farrelly's premiere night of "Dumb and Dumber" was ruined when his friend Danny pointed out the film had no one with a disability in it.
That night, he made a promise to himself, "Never again."

If your phone disappeared tomorrow... What do you think would change first?
Your mood?
Your focus?
Your stress?
One of the studies featured in CONVOS Episode 2 found that when participants blocked mobile internet on their smartphones, researchers observed significant improvements in wellbeing.
That result became the starting point for a much bigger question:
How much is the media we consume shaping our metal clarity, emotions and overwhelm?
Comment "Research" and we'll send you the studies.
