Police Officer Kelly Christine Korchak of the NYPD was a 9/11 first responder who later died of cancer linked to her work at Ground Zero. The cancer was discovered while she was pregnant. As a Catholic, she chose to delay aggressive treatment in order to protect her unborn child. She gave birth to her son and died several months later, in June 2017, at age 38. Her funeral Mass was celebrated at Holy Child Roman Catholic Church on Staten Island.
I lost my Dad on 9/11. I don’t get a lot of reach on here. But I just wanted to share a picture. He was 39. I thought he was old. I’m now in my mid 30s and I still feel like a kid.
He was a great trader. He loved markets. He loved to find a stock no one was talking about.
The first trade I ever placed was on his work computer, where he let me click the button to buy AMAT. I loved going to the office with him. It was electric.
He was the best dad. We spent hours out in the street after dinner where he’d throw “pop flys” for me to catch. Eye on the ball.
He loved watching Sponge Bob and eating cereal, wrestling with us in the living room. He just loved being around his kids so much, and we knew it. I’m so grateful I got a dad like that.
Love you, Pops.
Marie Lukas was 32, a securities broker with Cantor Fitzgerald’s eSpeed unit on the 103rd floor of the North Tower, when American Airlines Flight 11 struck the building below her on September 11, 2001.
She had already been in that tower during the 1993 bombing. Her dad, FDNY firefighter Frank Lukas (Engine 226) helped her evacuate that day.
On that day, though, she was above a wound that had closed every stair. She called him twice.
The first time she said a plane had hit and the exits were blocked.
The second time the office was filling with smoke and the people around her, knowing he had been a firefighter, asked whether they should break a window for air. He told them not to, that a sudden draft could feed the fire. Her last words to him were “OK, Dad.”
She did not come home.
I’ve had many accomplishments in my life. But nothing beats putting your baby down after a long day and seeing them look warm and comfortable…..and you realizing you had a part in it.
After going through childbirth again I can once again confirm that epidurals are a miracle that instantly transform a very traumatic experience into a calm and peaceful one and it’s such a better way to meet your baby, there’s no purpose to the pain, you’re just having a worse time for no reason
I honestly cannot stress this enough but please start living & enjoying your life. Your life is passing by daily and all you’re doing is working, paying bills, & overthinking stuff you can't change. Start taking trips and treating yourself. Have fun with this life. You only get 1
Four white men have more wealth than half the planet and you still think a brown immigrant is why you’re struggling? 😭 Explain that to me like I’m five.
As a parent you shouldn't be telling your kids that you sacrificed your life for them. Its mean, manipulative and its not true. You chose to have your kids and they didn't force you to have them. Its your responsibility to take care of them
Respectfully, I do not go above and beyond for people like i use to anymore. I meet you as far as you meet me. I speak to you as much as you speak to me. I include you as much as you include me.
People move on after mistreating you. They're not sitting up in a room like Brandy thinking about you. Most of the time they move on and live perfectly fine after doing you dirty. So release yourself from the shackles of waiting for someone to regret how they mistreated you.
normalize giving up on people. no more seeing the best in them, no more excusing their behavior. accept them as they are and reject them. If they wanted to appreciate you, they would’ve already.
