@George80937782 This post is disgusting. Turkish Cypriots did not sell their daughters. There was a tradition of Turkish Cypriots marrying Palestinians or Arab men because they shared the same religion and they desired a better life. Some did receive a dowry, no different to other cultures.
@George80937782 I agree. I have no problem living with Greek people. My best friends are Greek from Cyprus and Greece. Hence the reason why I’m on twitter advocating for some sort of solution so we can all move on.
@George80937782 You asked how many are left and i’m telling you that there is evidence of Greeks resettling and running businesses in Türkiye. The same question could be asked of how many Turks are left in Salonika or Athens or Crete? Zero
@George80937782 Interesting question. I was in Türkiye last year and locals
were telling me that grandchildren of former Greek inhabitants were returning to coastal areas. They were re-opening their old homes as restaurants & bouzuki places. Maybe the same is happening for Turks that left Greece
@George80937782 I can give you the same story about Turks made to flee or killed in Greece but I live in the present. Visit Istanbul and eastern Türkiye and witness the Orthodox people. Multi-faiths live together. And they can also state their ethnicity unlike the Turks in Greece. Oppressed!
@George80937782 I refer to Crete because there are modern day Turkish Cypriots who are Cretans. Both sides did bad things whether it was in Anatolia or the islands or modern day Greece. I’m not denying that.
@George80937782 21 people killed is not an implosion. Bombing the Presidential Palace and creating widespread chaos resulting in possibly thousands of GCs murdered by a rival group is an implosion. Iphestos file = systematic plan to cleanse TC villages just like Crete.
@George80937782 Petty crimes committed against targeted people. BUT still crimes that I DO NOT agree with. Petty reactionary tactics in a time that was tense. Nowhere near intense as the implosion amongst Greek Cypriots that led to the coup as well as the AKRITAS plan and IPHESTOS file
@George80937782 Total all this up and it still doesn’t cleanse the sins of the GC’s between 1963-74 as they denied TCs commerce opportunities, local & international recognition, deceptive acquirement of EVKAF properties as well as properties of the TC’s that fled 103 villages. Takes two to tango
@George80937782 “As numerous historians have attested, during the campaign by EOKA between April 1955 and March 1959, more Greek Cypriot civilians were murdered than any other target group.” A good read about the chaos caused by EOKA, which lead to the mobilisation of TMT https://t.co/8okWzkHkDM
@George80937782 I’m not sure what your sources are here? Are these eyewitness events? I spoke to credible people in Cyprus that alledge that EOKA killed 3k+ left wing Greek Cypriots. More than the 300+ reported. This is more serious than low level incidents like roughing somebody up.
@George80937782 It’s not just about casualties. There was also a threat to the Turkish Cypriot interests on the island. To prevent the risk of being dominated or something more devastating, this group was setup as preparation to the perceived threat.
@George80937782 You conveniently forget that EOKA was a terrorist organisation formed in 1954 with the aim of illegally achieving ENOSIS. TMT was formed later as a resistance to EOKA after the Turkish Cypriot community and the British was terrorised. https://t.co/87p3ubRlEr
@JamesKerLindsay@JaphaOfficial@TRNCyprus@IpekOzerim@sdestegul@Benfogle@UN_CYPRUS Turks and Greeks cannot even play a football game without incident. Look at what happened at the recent Larnaka V Fenerbahce game. It’s a tinderbox waiting to go off and you still insist that the two sides live together? A two state solution is the best solution.
