This is a different kind of Warren Buffett video.

In 1992, Buffett sat down with members of the Omaha Press Club for a seminar about dealing with the news media. It wasn’t a Berkshire annual meeting or a polished television interview, just Buffett in a room with local journalists taking their questions.

He begins by talking about his family’s history in newspapers. His grandfather owned a small-town Nebraska paper, his parents met at The Daily Nebraskan, and Buffett delivered both The Washington Post and its competitor as a teenager.

The discussion then turns to whether America’s true national debt was much larger once future Social Security promises were included. Buffett explains why the headline debt figure did not tell the entire story:

“The country has more taxing power than it’s used.”
