I know I'm an old haggard fuck for saying this, but Download fucking sucks these days. I'm sorry. It was my home for 10 years but I'm over it. It's a festival for scene tourists.
It's probably still sick if you're 16-24 though.
Any obscure retro enthusiasts out there able to help me find an old game? I never owned a PS1 or PS2, and I only saw it once maybe 15 or more years ago back when I was still in military training.
It was probably a PS1 game (I remember him playing it on his PS2), a third person adventure game with you in a vehicle going around collecting shinies. The premise is you putting your mind into a machine to stop a rogue computer, but everyone else who has tried has died doing so; there's no real combat, you're just moving around trying to collect the shinies to get to the next area.
The music is just a simple base track, and everything in the world has some sort of ambient noise it makes when you get close. The entire time, you're running away from some thing that makes a god-awful racket, I remember it being called something like "The Crusher".
The thing that stands out to me the most are the FMVs, though. Starting up the game, you get a video of physically putting your brain *into a machine*, dying is a video of your skull melting, and saving/quitting is a video of your brain getting put in a capsule and going on ice.
I've done multiple deep dives trying to find this, but if anyone can help me out, that'd be great; I might even suffer to it on stream if I can find it.
@one_big_boss Having played them all, I respectfully disagree. I started with the RE1 remake then played the OG much later. This made me appreciate both titles much more.
As much as I love the OGs, I think if I'd started with them I wouldn't necessarily have continued.
