“Cryin'” was written by Steven Tyler, Joe Perry and Taylor Rhodes for Aerosmith's 1993 album Get a Grip. Produced by Bruce Fairbairn, the song reportedly began as a more country-oriented composition before the band transformed it into the powerful blues-rock ballad that became one of their signature songs.
Released in June 1993, “Cryin'” became one of Aerosmith's biggest hits, reaching No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spending six weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. It also peaked at No. 17 on the UK Singles Chart.
Released as a single in 1999, after “Got the Life,” “Freak on a Leash” became Korn’s biggest song, reaching No. 6 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart, No. 10 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and No. 24 on the UK Singles Chart. Its innovative music video combines Todd McFarlane’s animation with live-action sequences directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. The video follows a bullet moving from the animated world into live action and became a landmark of the late-1990s MTV era, winning two MTV Video Music Awards in 1999 and Korn’s first Grammy Award, for Best Short Form Music Video, in 2000.
