On this date in 2002, John Cena made his WWE debut at a SmackDown taping in Chicago, answering Kurt Angle’s open challenge. Asked what made him think he belonged, the unknown rookie answered, “Ruthless aggression.” Angle won, but Cena nearly pulled off the upset, and afterward The Undertaker shook his hand backstage in a sign of respect.

Paul Heyman says he almost lost his job for advocating for Sandman's entrance theme to be "Enter Sandman" by Metallica at ECW One Night Stand.
"One Night Stand 2005 was a magnificent event that was as authentic an ECW presentation as we could put on in 2005, including but not limited to, but certainly highlighted by the Sandman’s entrance, which I fought for to the point of almost getting fired.” It was then stated that Vince McMahon did not want to pay for a Metallica song, and Heyman responded, “Right. When that music hit, everyone at the Hammerstein Ballroom knew, wow! This is a real ECW show. This is how it felt back in the 90s and in 2000.”

I Just got off the phone with Kurt where we reminisced about this match and how proud we both are of it and that it has withstood the test of time. Thank you all for supporting us both over these many years. You guys are the greatest fans in the world.
Like Mike Chioda, Bruce Prichard was getting in the ear from Vince, #OnThisDayInWWE 25 years ago:
“Vince wasn't ready to fire me - he was just ready to strangle me
"Only because I was the only communication to the referee at that point, and I was trying to get them to move on, and they weren't listening, they weren't doing it
"That definitely wasn't my fault. It was a situation where you have two guys that are great performers and feel that their performance must involve a lot of risks
"It was a crazy match. I thought it was way too much. I don't think I could ever watch that match and enjoy it
"I don't think I've ever watched it since, frankly. Can't watch it. It was too much and it was emotional from that vantage point as well"

🤯 Shane McMahon and Kurt Angle somehow survived THIS.
The King of the Ring Street Fight gave us one of the most insane glass spots ever
Shane demanded Kurt put him through that glass no matter what.
