Campaigners, climate experts, politicians react with disbelief and anger as UK minister in charge of #Cop28 talks goes home - presumably to vote on Rwanda bill. With @pgreenfielduk and @horton_official https://t.co/gqUPloHN8J
Sky's Sophy Ridge reads out part of the Energy Secretary's speech where she says, 'there's no wonder Labour seem so relaxed about taxing meat...' - and asks: "You didn't write that, did you? They're not proposing a meat tax?"

Recently had my 798th and final week at @theCCCuk. We didn’t get everything right, but I’m sure we helped the UK’s climate journey over those 15 years.
🦣🧵 on the CCC and UK decarbonisation, a story in 3 parts: The Start, The Struggle, and Net Zero
This decision undermines UK efforts towards Net Zero.
It is counter to the UK’s aims as COP26 President and it sends entirely the wrong signal to other countries about our climate priorities.
Sadly, the UK’s global influence on climate is greatly diminished by today’s decision.
Phasing out coal use is the clearest requirement of the global effort towards Net Zero. The Secretary of State’s decision will have implications beyond the UK’s borders.
This was our previous advice.

Incredible to say it, but we are discussing the consent of a new deep coal mine in the UK, despite all that has been said in recent years about the phase out coal.
This is a very bad decision – supporting a technology of the past, with a very poor prospectus for new UK jobs.
UK govt yes to Cumbrian coal mine is climate vandalism plus economic stupidity Global coking coal demand falls 80% by 2050 as iron-making moves to new tech https://t.co/7ljT9jMg93 This condemns workers to dead end jobs and future govt to bail out bankrupt asset Truly incompetent
Labour ideals of fairness and equality have been at the core of my life. I’m standing to be the next Labour MP for Sheffield Central to support the city that has supported me.

Former US Treasury Secretary Larry Summers tells Bloomberg: “It makes me very sorry to say, but I think the UK is behaving a bit like an emerging market turning itself into a submerging market.”

If you are British and a visible minority, do you now need to carry ID to protect yourself from being deported?
This teenager did.

Tory Govt just voted to make it a criminal offence for Ukrainian families to arrive in UK without the right papers with a penalty of up to 4yrs in prison.
At a time when British people have made clear we must help Ukraine, this is truly shameful. Our country is better than this
