Good morning. My day did not start well.
I received a distressing email from a young doctor.

"Dear Dr Abby,
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent introduction of an MD program in Ayurveda (MD Ayurveda Manovigyan Evam Manasa Roga) at NIMHANS, an institution widely regarded as a premier center for evidence-based psychiatric and neuroscientific education.

Despite sending multiple emails to authorities including the National Medical Commission Chairman, Directorate of Medical Education Karnataka, Karnataka Medical Council, the Director and Dean of NIMHANS, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and the Indian Medical Association, I have unfortunately not received any response yet.

This development raises serious concerns among practitioners of evidence-based medicine. Integrating fundamentally different systems of medicine, particularly within a premier national institute,risks blurring the line between scientifically validated practices and non-evidence-based approaches. If such initiatives continue unchecked, it may gradually influence other medical institutions across the country. I am particularly concerned about the apparent lack of response or intervention from the Indian Medical Association. As a representative body of modern medicine practitioners, IMA’s role in addressing such critical issues is essential.

I sincerely hope you will consider taking this matter forward and help safeguard the standards of evidence-based medical education in India.

Now, I cannot stop the Government from destroying what the scientific community has built over decades. It is easy for them to do this - to showcase nationalism, civilizational, traditional and cultural pride - to appeal to emotions of the people - to maintain a vote bank from a certain section of the population. But such acts slowly and steadily, erode scientific temperament and damage reputation of major institutions and demean/downgrade medical and research output from India. NIMHANS has always been a big target for pseudoscience infiltration and they are systematically taking over, in the name of integrative medicine.

I understand the active and current faculty and leadership at NIMHANS are castrated from voicing concerns, but I call out to the Alumni and the strong general medical bodies in Karnataka/India to prevent such courses from getting legitimacy in colleges of repute - because tomorrow, an Ayurvedic quack will proudly show a certificate of graduation from NIMHANS, similar to a DM or Mch graduate from the same institution. This is an insult to the scientific community who shed blood and tears to get into and complete gruelling training programs at NIMHANS.

Please tag the medical organizations who you think will have the balls to take this up. An MD course in Ayurveda should be isolated to All India Institute of Ayurveda and such third-rate institutions and not an institute of repute like NIMHANS.

As examples, I have attached excerpts from Ayurvedic teaching syllabus on "Ayurveda Psychiatry" and what these so-called "MD Ayurveda" graduates learn.

Tell me, is the promotion of this primitive, primal, inhumane, misogynistic, nauseating history of medicine past worth it?

2) If adequate viable healthy eggs are not collected in 1st cycle, then what is the cost of subsequent cycles?

The news of vaccinated girls fainting in Bihar is fake. It is a "cooked up" story which village idiots do not have the capacity to fact check. There is zero evidence to the claims in the story.

Bihar is one of the few states, along with Sikkim, that has started the HPV vaccination program, with a parliamentary panel in August 2025 urging a swift, nationwide expansion. The program is part of the state's "Mukhyamantri Balika Cancer Pratirakshan Yojana".

There have been reports of videos and social media posts circulating in October 2025 that spread false and misleading claims about the HPV vaccine, including that it is harmful, a "poison" for children, or causes infertility. It does not.

Many European countries are actively looking at eliminating cervical cancer through rational and aggressive HPV vaccination campaigns.

Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women in India. It is the leading cause of cancer mortality among women aged 30 to 69, accounting for 17% of all cancer deaths in this age group.

HPV vaccination programs will help us eliminate it in the near future.

But we are here, stuck with boomer IT Uncles trying to disrupt the public healthcare activities of doctors and scientists.

Hi @lufthansa I’ve been flying your airline for professional cycling for 22 years and I’ve never seen anything like this. You somehow crushed my bike vertically, snapping my frame, and destroying my crank driving it through the bottom of the bike box while bending the bikes axel. Unreal. I can’t even imagine what kind of force or weight would have to be applied from above to do this.

I have successfully used this soft case from Scicon (as do 1000s of other cyclists) for all of my flights since 2003. There was nothing in the case and the frame was wrapped with protective foam. Super frustrating to pay for a trip, pay extra for my bike to travel, and then have my bike show up crushed on arrival.

There are a lot of cyclists like me who travel from Denver to Europe to ride who would think to use @lufthansa . Should they expect their bikes to show up broken like mine?

A private Ayurveda company filed a criminal defamation case against me and my co-authors for publishing the case of a child who developed severe Ayurvedic herbal injury from their products and nearly died.

Today, the honorable High Court of Kerala passed the judgement to stay all proceedings against all of us, the "accused (doctors and scientists)."

We doctors and authors of the study collectively paid close to INR 800,000 ($9200) in legal fees to defend our peer reviewed publication and scientific evidence.

It is a small win for medical science, but there is a huge battle up ahead as multiple lawyer sources tell me that the Ayurveda industry in Kerala is preparing for a coordinated attack on me (and my coauthors) for publishing reports on harms of alternative medicine and educating the public on the same.

I need the public's support on fighting the alternative medicine mafia in the near future because now, the playing field has changed. It is no longer my personal fight (it never was), but now it is the people against pseudoscience.

Through my lawyers and our rationalist group, Mission for Ethics and Science in Healthcare (MESH), I intend to plead for crowdfunding support to carry on not just the defensive, but also take the offensive on Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Siddha, Unani and Naturopathy quacks that have been misleading, misinforming, and mistreating the public and patients.

They may be an unstoppable force, but we intend to be the immovable object, to protect and shield you, from the harms of pseudoscience, with your continuous help and support.
