I remember during my time at Cheptenye Boys, when we break for holidays or half-term, my first stopover would be at Meralis restaurant to eat chips masala and soda Madiaba. After that, I would board the next shuttle straight to Nakuru and stop by my mother’s office at Teleposta, where she would take me to Rift Fries for another plate of chips kuku. I would then spend the rest of the holiday with my homeboys playing PS and exchanging the latest series.

On Sunday afternoons, we would sneak out for jam sessions at Club Dimples, where we would enjoy Fanta and dance like mad people hadi magizani. Meeting girls was rare. In fact, I first saw a naked woman with my own eyes one year after finishing high school. Her name was Eunice,, one of the most beautiful women in London Estate at that time.

Today, things have changed. Students as young as 14 indulge in adult activities. Immediately after school breaks, their first stop is the nearby wines and spirits shop to quench their thirst for Kanamba special. They then spend the rest of the holiday watching porn and indulging in horizontal engineering like nobody’s business.

That’s why, when the holidays end and they return to school, they start plotting how to escape or go on strike. We are heading into a very dangerous era as a country.
