* Born on 18 June 1853, he was the son of Omukama Kamurasi Kyebambe IV and Omugo Kanyange Nyamutahingurwa.

* He ascended the throne in 1870 at the age of 16 as the 23rd Omukama from the Babiito Dynasty, choosing the throne name Chwa II.

* He oversaw a major economic and military revival of the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, boosting salt mining at Kibiro, developing iron smelting, and creating a professional 150,000-strong army called the Abarusuura.

* He fiercely resisted foreign imperialism and scored an early victory by defeating the forces of British-backed Sir Samuel Baker in 1872.

* When the British officially declared a protectorate over the region, he engaged them in a grueling five-year guerrilla war from 1894 to 1899 to protect his kingdom's sovereignty.

* He was shot, wounded in the arm, and captured on 9 April 1899 by British forces alongside his ally, Kabaka Mwanga II of Buganda.

* Following his capture, he was formally deposed by the colonial authorities and forced into an extended 24-year exile on the Seychelles Islands.

* While in captivity and exile, he adopted the name Yohana (John) after being baptized, but continued to resist colonial authority by sending diplomatic letters and petitions.

Two things about the Rwomushana kidnapping comments bother me. First, the vengeance.

People are judging him not for this incident, but for his past life in ISO and his past statements on TV.

You remember him as the ex-spy, the government defender, the NUP critic. So you have already sentenced him in your head.

That photo everyone is sharing, shirt on, wide body, it does not look like the Rwomushana I know.

His body is not that wide. In this era of AI images, you must ask if it is legitimate or fabricated before you use it to confirm your bias.

Second, his policy analysis was always skewed. Sometimes he would attack opposition, especially NUP, with unnecessary heat. Other times he would swing and attack government.

Like most analysts in Kampala, perfection was never his brand. But none of that justifies an abduction.

The most important issue is simple and being ignored. Why was he arrested? We have not heard the reasons. No charge sheet has been produced.

Until we hear the charges, it is unfair to judge him. You may dislike what he says or does, but patience is the only honest position.

Wait for the charges. Then form an opinion that is based on law, not revenge.
