The issue is not with writing a similar trope but with continuously reusing and poorly rephrasing entire lines/paragraphs from somebody else's fic (a fic which is honestly a staple in bmjn rpf) that they have put a lot of work into and is incredibly personal to them

and you would never read both our prose and think 'aren't these pretty similar?' bcs there's always something that sets us apart. working w the same source material ≠ working off of someone's material. our interpretations are different, so it naturally reflects onto our works.

also this is coming from someone w a rly similar writing style w b (esp in monologues) but our styles were alr similar BEFORE we ever knew of each other's existence. and I would argue that b has a better grasp of prose flow than I do bcs she reads more than me by a mile +

my nuanced take: if a persons normal writing voice is more casual 90% of the time and then at random it switches tones and loses the original voice/lexicon/punctuation patterns of the writer, and adopts COMPLETELY new ones, maybe there is smth there to pause and consider
