Scholarships are good SEO for websites, too. A lot of those $500/$1000 scholarships with links back to the companies and orgs that sponsor them arent done for benevolence or fin aid - it's just like buying ads.

Mainly because links from EDU and GOV sites are better for a site's inbound link profile and ranking ... and one scholarship spread around dozens of universities each semester is a ton of relatively simple, pay-to-play backlinks for agencies to show high end clients.
