Cut off the woody outside. Cut the softer inner stem into little slices or shred them. and incorporate into slaw, or make into its own side with butter and salt. (My fave is slaw.)
Throwing away the broccoli stems always felt like a waste, so I'm making broccoli stem soup. Fingers crossed it works out.
Any other suggestions for using broccoli stems?

Happened upon Shakespeare In Love this evening. Only the second time I’ve seen it and honestly I still think the other movies it was up against for Best Picture were stronger.
