Miami-Dade County, Florida — Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office Robbery Intervention detail deputies initiated a traffic stop on a yellow corvette. The traffic stop was initiated due to illegal window tints. The driver, 24-year-old Kristofer Laboy, fled from the traffic stop. Laboy drove at a high rate of speed through city streets while, at times, driving in heavy traffic against the right of way. The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office Air Support Unit responded, providing real-time updates to ground units on Laboy's location. Ground units broke away but remained in the general area of Laboy's vehicle with the assistance of air support. Laboy stopped momentarily and threw an object from his vehicle. Laboy then drove into an apartment complex and came to a stop. Laboy exited his vehicle while armed and ran toward deputies, resulting in deputy #1 discharging his service weapon. After much chaos and bullets, Laboy was pronounced deceased at the scene.

TJ Wiggins was found guilty of first degree murder – three counts - in a court of law by a jury of his peers.

One of our forensics investigators who testified said it best: “Six years. Six years for three families to get justice. A defense that attempted to question the integrity and work product we put forth. That night in July six years ago, we worked in less than ideal conditions, for many hours. In closing, the defense said we should be ’ashamed.’ I am not ashamed. I am proud! I stand shoulder to shoulder with the absolute best in the business. This is not a win for an individual at the Sheriff’s Office. This is justice for three families that waited far too long to see it. Today is a reminder of why we work so hard. It is not for personal recognition or accolades. It is all in the name of giving families some kind of closure. To all who had a hand in this case, big or small, it mattered. We saw it through to the end. May these families finally have peace.”
