so finding new connections i would say is only part of creating a movement, how do artists find ways to bring along the rest of that story too, there is a funny line with social media now where you risk turning into a flattened version of yourself by telling the story mostly via social media because if it hits, it is copied, and everything becomes very baudrillardian almost instantly, i saw a video from the weekend of skrillex yelling on the mic "PUT THE PHONE DOWN" from the stage.. i think he has always intuitively known that the experience IRL is the strongest most potent way to connect with people.. i dont really think he has an ulterior motive tbh, but i think he instinctively knows doing cool shit in real life with real people activates word of mouth which is still the most potent way all ideas move around (always has and will be imo)
yes "flattening".. back in the pre-algorithmic era it was interesting how ideas could be juxtaposed and they FELT different precisely for this reason you are pointing out, people often found out about a new idea and a lot of time the story, context and continuity around it was part of the conversation, now it feels like people connect the dots on a surface level because of the way information swipes by us, people spend less time thinking / learning / digesting things
@TokenOfTheMonth@RamonPang there was a time were i really couldn't stand a critic, but now it feels important once again to have curation, critique.. critical thinking.. its hard to build a narrative or maintain it if things are plucked out of temporal reality. the internet used to be an extension of that
@TokenOfTheMonth@RamonPang another discussion point.. context and continuity. theres upsides with how connected we are in terms of discover new things, yet the insidious downside the "flattening" of culture from cities, communities and people, again always been an issue but now super accelerated
@TokenOfTheMonth@RamonPang listening to your suggestions very dope, this thing too about how people count beats / time signatures in different cultures i find that very fasinating, part of what makes some of this stuff sound so futuristic is the sound design and the structure how time feels
@TokenOfTheMonth@RamonPang it happens with all trends now, something is unknown, then suddenly it is known, and it is kinda assimilated into the collective consciousness.. this has always happened of course, but it feels super accelerated because of the way information moves now
@TokenOfTheMonth@RamonPang checkin em out and yes u make a great point, another big question that comes to mind about how information moves around, a big difference between the pre-algorithmic era to now, is that now the second stuff hits the timeline there is this "flattening" effect that happens
@RamonPang its an interesting thought experiment to figure out where some of these connections could be made in unexpected places today, i think if someone can figure out how to connect the dots it could bring in another crazy era instead of trying to relive things we already have
@RamonPang i think its a lot harder to do in the post algorithmic environment cause it feels like everything is ALREADY connected, the nature of information flow.. it feels now more than ever people want to section off scenes and ideas in response to a homogeneous feed
