Stanhopea wardii, I did not except to see both spikes open this year (eight flowers) due to the short flowering period but every days a school day!!

Stanhopea wardii, a species from South America grown warm to hot. There are two flowers spikes on this specimen but unfortunately we will not see both spikes flowering together due to their three-day flowering period. Maybe next year!!

Cuitlauzina pendular, registered by LaLave & Lex in 1825. This pendulous species from Mexico has been grown by Mike Armstrong, a cool growing orchid, if you can grow Odontoglossums you will have success wth this species.

Cattleya warneri, a species grown from flask, the flask originated from Phil Seaton and flowered by Mike Armstrong. It has taken 6-7 years to flower but well worth it with two flowers that are perfectly formed.

Native to Brazil, Cattleya teneborosa x sib. (Escura x Labelao). Grown by Mike Armstrong, flowering for the first time presenting five bronze/copper-tone flowers with a very dark, differentiated design lip.

Cattleya purpurata x sib (Black x Cardial), a sibling cross between two distinct colour variants. Grown by Mike Armstrong, this is a flowering for the first time and has a lovely deep magenta flower which is progressing well. Do you know if anyone else has this plant??

In a change to our usual venue for our meeting on June 21st, our members will be going to Barnack Hills and Holes Nature Reserve to see the orchids in flower it’s a medieval quarry site of Special Scientific Interest covering 50 acres taking approx 2hours to complete the walk.
