#BlueJays No. 2 prospect Brandon Barriera made his pro debut tonight for Single-A Dunedin:
4 IP • 0 ER, 0 H, 1 BB, 6 K
Fastball: 93.5 mph average
Slider: 7 whiffs on 11 swings
@dannykanell The coach/school has to sign off and be the one who enters the info into the portal. There is no “shopping around” opportunity for the athlete. You can’t even talk to another school before that. It’s a leap and the athlete just has to hope there’s another program that is a fit.
You probably remember when Brandon Barriera told the 22 teams that passed on him in the 2022 MLB Draft they'll "regret it".
For the #BlueJays 1st-rounder, that chip runs deep: https://t.co/kjGHiTwIy5
@joonlee Very different. The players are coming out of the off season. They are not conditioned or prepared for the level of intensity of the WBC. In Spring training their progression and level of conditioning is managed by their employer.
After what the Blue Jays have done with Ricky Tiedemann, fans should feel awfully excited about Brandon Barriera. Up to 99;sinking, flashing a plus slider and feel for a changeup. Better pure athlete than Tiedemann too. Could be scary.

Projected 1st round prep LHP Brandon Barriera opted out of the end of his season, akin to how running backs skip mid-tier bowl games. He's first, but insiders think it will become much more common.
I spoke with him and broke down the larger state of play
