Hi, it's Grace, I'm on my 2nd last day of my work experience at Kimcell.
Today I looked at DoS attacks and how you can run a stress test to see when your website stops working. I then made a presentation about everything I have learnt doing work experience over the last 2 weeks.
Hi, it's Grace again. Yesterday used a VM as an email server to send emails within the server. I then changed the settings and sent an email to my Google account, which is running on a different server.
Checked mail logs to understand what happens and how to look for problems.
Hi, it's Grace, I'm on my 7th day of my work experience at Kimcell. Today I looked at open relay email servers and how to secure them and why hackers use open relays. I looked at SPF and how it protects email servers from hackers and spammers. I also worked from home today.
Hi, it's Grace, I'm on my 2nd Week of my work experience at Kimcell. Today I finished off what I was doing on what happens when you type in a website address and I started looking at how emails are sent. We looked at MX records as well as using telnet via SMTP to send an email.
Hi, it's Grace, on my 5th day. Today I set up a firewall and tested it by blocking different IPs and ports. I also used software to brute force a password from a wordlist I made. I then set up software to block the brute force. #webmin#sweets#bossGotSoleros
Hi, it's Grace - 4th day of my work experience at Kimcell. Today I learnt about data centres and how they are connected as a redundant network, meaning that they are fault resistant. I also learnt about insecure ports and their secure equivalents. Here I am breaking the Internet.
Hi, it's Grace, on my third day of my work experience at Kimcell. Today we looked at networks in more detail, learning about switches, routers and firewalls and their differences. We also looked at TCP ports and port scanning techniques with NMAP you can use with permission.
Hi, it's Grace, on my second day of my work experience at Kimcell and I'm really enjoying it so far.
Today we looked at how DNS works as well as a little bit on how networks work and the different settings you need to communicate with each other.
Standing desks are great.
The address is 37.143.141.30, and the computer would find the data centre that is hosting it.
It would then retrieve and show you the website.
This is a very simplified version of what happens but tomorrow I will go into more detail on IP addresses and their format.
Hi, I’m Grace from Bournemouth School for Girls and I am on work placement at Kimcell learning about how the internet works and what really happens when you type a website address in. Today it was a quick look at domain names and how computers talk to each other over networks.
What happens when you type a website address in?
Humans think of websites as words but computers think as numbers. To see a website you type in for example https://t.co/9rH9LBunN0 , your computer would then find the IP address of this website using DNS ( a domain naming system).
For the next two weeks we are letting our Work Experience student, Grace from Bournemouth School for Girls @BSGupdate, take over this Twitter account to kick start it all off.
