@AddSomeLogic @MorosKostas @RandyEBarnett It does happen. There are documented cases and there are other cases that likely would have been mass shootings but were stopped after or one or two deaths hence Schrodinger's mass shootings.

However, most occur where it's illegal to carry.

@mllichti @jasonc_nc @asymmetricinfo They choose areas with cheap electricity but then adding the infrastructure is spread out to all customers. This is pretty well documented. As is there need for water. Closed loop system help a bit but still take massive amounts from the water table.

The description of "spead only by close contact" is a bit vague and that's understandable as there aren't many outbreaks to follow. I think many are also equating this expedition ship with a large cruise ship, whereas an expedition ship doesn't have many crowded indoor areas and yet it spread there. If it spread through ventilation, that's not "close contact" either.
One would hope an aircraft filtering system would mitigate spread.

That's just the basics of virology. Organisms have to reproduce sugnifucantly before they can produce disease or be shed from the host. That's what's happening during the incubation period: the virus using your body to reproduce itself.

There can theoretically be pre-symptomatic or asymptomatic shed (as with Covid) but there's no indication that happens with hantavirus and even then it wouldn't be immediate. It would be somewhere closer to the time when the person gets sick. With hantavirus, about the same time they get a fever that they are contagious.
