We weren’t busy this weekend building new features or adding new icons — we were dealing with an attack on our servers. Our CPU usage kept shooting up, which caused Kimko Stocks to go down multiple times.

This actually started last month. A hacker who saw our launch on Product Hunt emailed me multiple times using the name Adam Smith. He openly threatened to hack our product if I didn’t pay him a bounty. We took his warning seriously and secured all our data.
But I refused to pay him. Whatever money I have, I’ve invested into building Kimko. And honestly, if I got scared and paid him once, someone else would show up and try to blackmail me again. After everything I’ve gone through this past year to build this, I’m not going to let anyone threaten me for a bounty. We will fight till the end.

It does feel sad though. When you’re building something, you already deal with so many challenges—and then something like this comes in and adds to the burden. From the outside, it may look like everything is smooth and exciting. But on the inside, you’re fighting battles no one sees.

We’ve now secured all our servers, and monitoring. They were being used for cryptomining during the attack, which caused the spikes.

I just wanted to share this because this is the reality of building—messy, stressful, but worth it.

Reid Hoffman once said, “If you are not embarrassed by the first version of your product, you’ve launched too late.”
Something similar happened with us during the launch of @kimkostocks .
We built the product for four months and kept delaying the release because I really didn’t want customers to face any issues while interacting with it. After fixing all major bugs, we finally launched last month — and the industry showed us so much love. People reshared it, commented, and even supported us by buying single icons.
But…
We ran into a major issue the moment we went live. We had confidently claimed that all our icons were consistent (and they are), but our platform preview was showing inconsistent strokes across the entire library; it was a display issue. We had built a fluid canvas that adapts to the icon size — but clearly, something broke.
Many people DM’d me about it, and some even commented publicly.
And honestly, they were right.
Even though the icons were built precisely on the system line grid, the preview was misrepresenting the work. A few experts — and even ChatGPT — suggested uploading raw SVGs. We tried that, and it worked well, but as a business that sells icons for a living, uploading SVGs in the preview was too risky.
After experimenting with multiple combinations, we finally cracked it. The preview is now consistent across all icons, and watching our library grow feels incredibly rewarding. We are constantly improving our platform and can assure you that if you download any icon from Kimko stocks, it will be in the same stroke, same curve, because that's what our mandate is while creating these beautiful icons.
I wanted to share this openly because, in a world where bots and AI are taking over, it’s easy to forget the human side of building things. And as Palki Sharma said in her latest video, “The real internet — the fun internet — wasn’t built by bots. It was built by people.”
And this is our small reminder of that.
