"G7 promises to support Ukraine and sanction Russia in joint declaration" - Europeans see this a big win for Ukraine, as the Trump signed off on the wording 'We, the Leaders of the G7, stand united in our unwavering support for Ukraine in defending its freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity'. Although, as it was signed after midnight, one wonders if he had already nodded off by then, waking up only when they shoved the pen in his hand.

It would be great if all these news organisations would get the geography correct, gushing over the G-7 meeting in Evian (more correctly Évian-les-Bains). The city is on Lac Léman. Geneva just happens to a city at the other end of the lake, with the mis-naming of the lake probably coming about because of Deep Purple!

This 'deal' between the US and Iran, agreeing to end their four-month war, was very conveniently announced on Trump's birthday, and in front of the G-7 meeting in Evian, France, starting today. Only it's so light on those all important deak-breaking details, every news service is basically making them up .

The Crimea was Putin's first 'little green men' takeover back in 2014, is the apple of his eye, and is the summer holiday destination for Russians. Not anymore.
