🇰🇭 On this day, 28 May — We Remember Our Heroe🇰🇭
One year ago, on 28 May 2025, Thai soldiers opened fire on our Cambodian troops at the border. A brave Cambodian soldier was killed in the attack.
Despite the provocation, Cambodia chose peace. We did not fire back in anger. Instead, our leaders reached out to the international community, calling for dialogue and a peaceful resolution.
But on 26 July 2025, Thai forces opened fire again, escalating the conflict and causing more suffering.
Today, we stand united in remembrance of our fallen heroes — those who sacrificed their lives defending our sacred land.
We will never forget their bravery. Their blood strengthens our resolve for justice and sovereignty.
Cambodia is a nation of peace, but we will always defend what is ours.
🕊️ May peace prevail through justice.
❤️ Long live Cambodia!

Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of Cambodia, reaffirmed his strong endorsement and renewed his call for China to support the long-awaited Kampong Chhnang–Kampong Thom road and bridge project.
Speaking at a meeting with provincial and local officials in Kampong Chhnang province on Wednesday (May 27), Samdech Techo stressed the importance of improving transport connectivity to boost economic growth and enhance livelihoods for communities around the Tonle Sap Lake.
The proposed National Road 50C project includes a bridge stretching nearly 60 kilometres and has already undergone feasibility studies. The project is expected to strengthen regional connectivity while improving water flow management in the area.
On the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen revealed that he had previously raised the proposal with China’s ambassador to Cambodia and formally requested concessional financing from the Chinese government to help bring the project to fruition.

Press Release
The Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia, wishes to inform the public as well as members of national and international media as follows:
On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 9:30 AM, the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) of the Kingdom of Cambodia, led by Lieutenant General Phat Vibolsopheak, Deputy Director-General of the General Department of Policy and Foreign Affairs and Director of the International Relations Department, facilitated a field mission for the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), led by the Head of Mission (HOM AOT) under the Philippine Chairmanship. The objective was to observe, verify, and report on the border situation in the Boeung Trakuan area, located in Kok Romiet Commune, Thma Puok District, Banteay Meanchey Province. This area was subjected to incursions, the installation of barbed wire, and the illegal deployment of shipping containers by the Thai military—actions that continue to prevent numerous Cambodian families from returning to their homes.
The ASEAN Observer Team’s inspection of the aforementioned sovereign Cambodian territory currently under illegal Thai occupation underscores the absolute necessity for the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) to commence land demarcation work as soon as possible. This aligns with the existing framework stipulated in Point 3 of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) dated December 27, 2025, which aims to ensure that our citizens can safely, peacefully, and with dignity return to their homes without any obstruction.
The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia reaffirm our firm, sincere, and unwavering commitment to fully and faithfully respect and implement the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand on October 26, 2025, and all other relevant agreements. This commitment is made with the aim of ensuring rapid recovery and restoring normalcy, and long-lasting peace and stability.
The public, as well as national and international journalists, are hereby informed of the facts regarding this matter.

As of 12:00 a.m., December 22, 2025, Thailand has conducted 23 airstrikes on Cambodia, destroying military targets and civilian infrastructure, including primary schools, pagodas, and bridges (bombings listed below).
The Thai airstrikes are unanswered. Cambodia does not have its own fighter aircraft or any surface-to-air defenses. The conflict has resulted in the displacement of 518,611 Cambodians.(1) Thailand also reports 213,072 people displaced out of precaution from Cambodian artillery fire.(2) Khmer people are suffering. The Thai provinces along the border are populated by Khmer people, such as Surin province, which is estimated to be at least 63% Khmer.(3)
Thailand agreed to an unconditional ceasefire on July 28, 2025, pressured by U.S. President Trump. President Trump oversaw the signing of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord by Thai Prime Minister Anutin and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on October 26, 2025. However, on November 10, 2025, Thai Prime Minister Anutin announced that Thailand was suspending the peace accord.(4,5)
Anutin’s public reason for cancelling the peace accord was that four Thai soldiers were injured by a landmine on a jungle path in disputed territory on November 10, 2025.(6)
However, Anutin is influenced by political calculus. Anutin, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party (“Thai Pride Party”) became prime minister on September 5, 2025, with the help of the much larger People’s Power Party which called for a referendum on the constitution to shift power from the unelected Senate. Anutin falsely agreed to support a referendum as October 1, 2025.(7)
Anutin’s November 10 cancellation of peace accord occurred only after he was aware that he would face an election. On November 5, 2025, Anutin himself stated “If we can’t win the political game, we’ll dissolve the House”.(8) Early elections became even more certain for Anutin on November 9, 2025, when the People’s Party demanded an extraordinary session for constitutional amendment, rejected by Anutin.(9)
Adding to Anutin's desperation, his approval rating dropped from 48% to only 23% following the slow response to floods in Southern Thailand from November 21-24.(10)
The commencement of war with Cambodia on December 7, 2025, strategically positioned Anutin for reelection ahead of the dissolution of parliament on December 12, 2025.

Thank you, foreign brothers and sisters, for your love and support for Cambodians during this difficult time. Therefore, Cambodians must love each other and be united so that we can win.
I was born and raised in Cambodia, a land where peace once felt natural and freedom was quiet but real.
Today, I speak not to accuse, but to be heard.
We never started a war.
All we have ever wanted is peace, for our people, our homes, and the future we still believe in. Cambodia is my motherland ❤️🇰🇭

The Cambodian first lady and humanitarian organisations are calling for immediate and scaled-up assistance as renewed clashes along the Cambodia–Thailand border drive mass displacement, overwhelm existing relief capacity and exposing hundreds of thousands of children and families to escalating risks.

SIEM REAP - International volunteers from Youth With A Mission (YWAM), a Christian mission organisation, were carrying out donations at the displacement camps where civilians have been fleeing the border conflict for days.
While making a donation to a camp in Srei Snam district of Siem Reap province on Dec. 15, Jolene Ong, a Singaporean volunteer for YWAM, added that her role is to bring joy to the displaced children by making prayers, boosting encouragement, and lifting hope.
The latest wave of displacement followed deep airstrikes by the Thai military, with F-16 jets dropping bombs near O’Chik Bridge along the border between Oddar Meanchey Province and Srei Snam district in Siem Reap Province on Dec. 15.
