NNAMDI AZIKIWE: THE MAN WHO HELPED NIGERIA IMAGINE FREEDOM
Before Nigeria became independent in 1960, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe was already using the power of words to challenge colonial rule.
Through journalism, especially the West African Pilot, he helped shape nationalist consciousness. He became one of the leading voices in the struggle for self-government and later served as Nigeria’s first President, from 1963 to 1966.
But history is more than remembering the names of our heroes.
Azikiwe and his generation fought for a country where Nigerians could determine their own future. Independence gave us that opportunity—but opportunity is not the same as achievement.
Today, millions still struggle for decent work, affordable food, reliable electricity, quality education, and leaders who answer to the people.
So here is the question we should ask ourselves:
Did we only inherit the freedom our heroes fought for—or are we building the Nigeria they hoped that freedom would create?
A nation does not honour its history by repeating the names of its heroes. It honours them by taking their unfinished work seriously.
What would Zik say about the Nigeria we have built today?

NIGERIA: HISTORY KEEPS ASKING US THE SAME QUESTION.
From one administration to another, Nigerians have heard promises of economic renewal, sacrifice and a better tomorrow.
Today, the government says the next phase of growth will depend on private investment, with the petrol subsidy no longer returning.
But here is the question history leaves on our doorstep:
When a nation asks its people to endure hardship in the name of reform, what must it eventually deliver in return?
A stronger economy cannot be measured only by figures on a government report. It must also be felt in the cost of feeding a family, the ability of a young person to find work, the security of a community and the dignity of ordinary life.
Nigeria has changed policies, governments and economic directions. The people are still waiting for a future that feels different.
How long should citizens be asked to sacrifice before they can see the results?
