🇸🇬 Singapore really needs more babies, and it’s offering parents $55,000 per child!

Families will get almost S$70,000, around $55,000, in support through age 17, including money at birth, education help, more parental leave, and even help buying a first home.

And yeah, the numbers explain why they’re going this far.

At current rates, 100 women would have around 87 children between them. Roughly 210 are needed to keep the population from shrinking without immigration.

Meanwhile, Singapore is getting old fast. By 2030, 1 in 4 people is expected to be 65 or older.

Even the PM admits the money probably won’t be enough, so immigration will have to fill some of the gap.

This evidence reframes how we think about maternal care, pushing back against the notion that new mothers should quickly “bounce back.” Instead, the findings advocate for sustained medical support and social understanding throughout the long-term recovery period.

From managing postpartum emotional health to monitoring neurological and hormonal rebalancing, the research underscores the complexity and duration of true postpartum healing. As such, it calls for healthcare systems, employers, and families to adapt their expectations and better support mothers well beyond the six-week mark.

Is Italy secretly better than America?

One of the most admirable things about Italy is the way it still treats civilization as something inherited rather than something invented yesterday.

Family, Christian faith, local identity, craftsmanship, food, architecture, and tradition are not just museum pieces there. They are part of everyday life. They are within the blood of Italians.

Italians often have a strong attachment to their town, region, family history, and customs, creating the kind of rootedness that modern societies have often lost.

Italy also shows the value of preserving beauty. Ancient churches, stone villages, piazzas, farms, vineyards, monuments, and historic neighborhoods are maintained because previous generations built things worth keeping. There is an implicit lesson in that, progress does not require destroying what came before.

Italian culture also places tremendous value on family life. Meals are social events, grandparents remain important, children are integrated into family gatherings, and relationships often matter more than efficiency. There is something deeply healthy about a society where life is not completely organized around careers, corporations, screens, and consumption.

Rural Italy is especially appealing. Small farms, vineyards, olive groves, family businesses, local butchers, bakers, markets, and craftsmen preserve a degree of economic independent living. Food is connected to place and season rather than being completely industrialized.

Perhaps most importantly, Italy reminds us that a country can modernize without becoming culturally rotten. Its greatest strength is not simply that it has old traditions, but that millions of people still understand those traditions as belonging to them. Conservatism at its best is partly about that very instinct.

The instinct to protect what is beautiful, proven, meaningful, and for the glory of God. What is worth passing on.
