Many thanks to Nat Connors @kindletrends for joining me for a chat about the new KDP categories, including how they are more shopper-focused than the previous BISAC-based codes and how they help limit bad players from gaming the system.

@fivethorns@IndieAuthorALLI Ha, thanks for being a subscriber! Let me know if you want to talk about fantasy subgenre stuff; the more I talk to people who know a genre, the better I can make Kindletrends for that genre.
@write_wherever and it's *proper* tango as well; I was so happy in that moment. They *must* have worked with an actual tango dancer to get the animation right, not someone who just watched it and thought they understood.
@Starseedparents@IndieAuthorALLI You're most welcome; I'm always happy to talk. Some of my other free resources might be of interest to you too: https://t.co/QFlaBMXOKz
@LukeJKendall@IndieAuthorALLI Yep, I have certainly seen many examples of the median price point for a genre being USD1/2 higher wide, relative to Amazon. One day I'd like to do a cross-market comparison of pricing in different genres (@OrnaRoss perhaps a topic for a future article?)
@IndieAuthorALLI@LukeJKendall Yes, this is definitely in line with what I've seen. Received wisdom among some genres (e.g. romance) is that wide readers may tolerate a higher price point (USD1/2 more), *but* cover design norms may differ, and marketing to non-Amazon readers is also a challenge.
@OrnaRoss @IndieAuthorALLI Oh, thankyou Orna! I just hope everyone got something valuable out of it. There's still a great deal for all of us to learn in this space.
@LukeJKendall@IndieAuthorALLI also note that many authors price aggressively/free for Book 1 and aim to make it back on readthrough, even for wide audiences (who may have different price expectations to Amazon buyers. As always though I think it's the norms of your *specific* market which matter.
@LukeJKendall@IndieAuthorALLI If you are focused on readthrough and long series, and your audience are binge-readers, I would suggest keeping your price constant to give them one fewer reason to stop. OTOH if your focus is on revenue from *each* book, then it might be OK to price each book differently.
