@Abjectesque Jeritza is one of the most clear examples of how the crest system hurts people. The fact he is only on CF is no mistake. As the route where you destroy the system, he helps show why you'd want to.
@Abjectesque "Just used to explain his behavior," yeah that's what backstories do? And also, most characters don't have a ton of plot importance outside the lords, but those that don't often help with the lore and world building.
@clervalsteins I may have made a whole oc out of this concept already. My idea was that the child ages 3 times slower than normal, which scared the absolute shit out of Nosramus due to previous experience with the experiment in the first creation of life book.
This is what I've been saying! Critique is a skill, not everyone has it. And besides, are you actually helping the author improve? Or are you trying to turn a fic that isn't for you into one that is? The latter isn't helpful at all. That's just complaining.
every time i read takes like 'fic writers are too weak to accept criticism (and bc of that they'll never be good writers)' i ask myself what degrees have those people that give them the right to critize other's fics.
You don't really see that from internet comments claiming to be 'critique' in my experience. So, no, I don't think it's the same. I don't think fic writers would shrivel up and die in art school just because they don't like harsh, unasked for opinions.
I'm currently in animation school. I get my work torn to shreds by professionals who know what they're doing on a weekly basis, and I thank them for it because I want to improve. This is not that. Randos on the internet are not teachers or professionals, or even classmates. ๐งต
Idk, maybe I just have a thick skin, but considering how heavily bullied I was in school for being too sensitive and crying easily, I doubt that. I do get nervous before class, yet I always leave class happy and ready to take on the next week. Even if I have to redo everything.
@elthedane Also, I never give concrit unless asked for. Especially on unfinished work. Cause, like, proper concrit is not easy! You can't just say "I didn't like this part" because maybe that part is important! Maybe it adds context for a later chapter! You don't know until it's complete.
@elthedane Many people can't seem to tell the difference between "I don't like it" and "it's bad". I've been a zine writing mod, and therefore had to read and critique many fics that weren't my taste. I know it isn't easy to separate, but you absolutely need to if you want to give concrit.
