Reverend Benjamin Brigham, first pastor of this church, was installed March 27, 1771. He later took a leave of absence to fight in the Revolutionary War, before returning to serve the congregation until his death in 1799.

July 4, 1826: RIP Jefferson and Adams
July 4, 2026 is not just the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence; it is also the two-hundredth anniversary of the deaths of two of the foremost and most formidable of the Founding Fathers, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. It is one of the many strange and striking details of history that two of these warriors for freedom, the best of friends at times and the worst of enemies at other times would have died on the same day, and not just any day, but on the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the nation they did so much to bring into being.

Freedom has never been free.
Thank you to every warrior, patriot, hunter, rancher, worker, law enforcement officer, first responder, and veteran who keeps the American Spirit alive.
Happy 250th birthday to the greatest country on Earth.
God Bless America. 🇺🇸
Happy 250th Birthday America. 🇺🇸🦅
Moving to this country at 6 y/o allowed me to see, do, and experience things I would’ve never thought possible for me.
That’s what America is about.
Possibility. Freedom. Optimism. Exceptionalism.
Happy 4th of July everybody. 🎆
Happy birthday America! I am very proud, No, I am extremely proud to be a Christian American! Born and raised in this beautiful land, which I love! Yes, I love America! #USA
What’s interesting is people often quote Douglass’s 1852 speech “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?”, usually as a way to bully Black Americans into not celebrating the 4th. It’s very interesting, though, that I never hear them quote his speech from 8 years later, “The Constitution of the United States: Pro-Slavery or Anti-slavery?”
Maybe it’s because he says, in part, “How dare any man who pretends to be a friend to the Negro thus gratuitously concede away what the Negro has a right to claim under the Constitution? Why should such friends invent new arguments to increase the hopelessness of his bondage? This, I undertake to say, as the conclusion of the whole matter, that the constitutionality of slavery can be made out only by disregarding the plain and common-sense reading of the Constitution itself…by claiming that the Constitution does not mean what it says, and that it says what it does not mean; by disregarding the written Constitution, and interpreting it in the light of a secret understanding.”
America is our birthright just as much as it is any other American. The blood of our ancestors was spilled to ensure it. I celebrate both Independence Day AND Juneteenth, as I believe all should. Enjoy your 4th.
Happy 250th Birthday, America! 🇺🇸
Today, we celebrate not only 250 years of independence, but 250 years of courage, resilience, and possibility.
America is not defined by perfection, but by the enduring promise that tomorrow can be better than today.
For my family and me, this nation has been a land of opportunity—a place where hard work is rewarded, dreams are pursued, faith is freely practiced, and service has profound meaning.
I am deeply grateful for the freedoms many have sacrificed to secure, for the men and women who continue to defend them, and for a country that welcomes people from every corner of the world with the opportunity to build a better future.
As an American, I am honored to contribute to the ongoing story of this great nation.
May we never take our liberty for granted. May we lead with courage, serve with humility, and leave America stronger for the generations that follow.
Happy 250th Birthday, America.
God Bless the United States of America. 🇺🇸
