Another school record! The 4x200m relay team (Gabryel Brown, Braden Boyer, Michael Tucker and Kayden Franklin) broke the record set earlier this year. The relay team qualified for the Regional Finals on Saturday.
The best assistant coaches do three things well:
1. Support the head coach publicly
2. Challenge the head coach privately
3. Serve the players daily
Loyalty doesnโt mean silence.
It means alignment and trust.
Baltimore Ravens HC Jesse Minter - Empowering Assistant Coaches to Share Ideas
"In my opinion it's the most important thing. NFL & College you might have 10/11 guys in a defensive room. We want to look at things in the same lens, have the same principles but I want everyone to also have their own ideas."
"I think as a really good leader, one of the traits is to make everybody feel like they have the ability to share their ideas. I think you make everybody feel important that way, which raises the camaraderie & the morale of the room. And then when you take an idea, then you've got to be willing to give them credit for it and I think that's huge."
"I think that's really important to really good culture. Making it about everybody, it's never about you, it's about the group. With group success comes individual success for everybody involved."
"For young coaches it's understanding that those moments are great opportunities to learn. Don't be afraid to share an idea, don't be mad when your idea may or may not be taken. Eventually you will get to that point where you get a chance to make the decisions and looking at it like a long term process instead of a quick rise up."
Baltimore Ravens HC Jesse Minter - Building Fire Zone/Simulated Pressure Menus
- "When I'm deciding Fire Zone, what are the main runs they're running. We really look at whose hands do we want the ball in (read game).
- "Coverage wise, if they're a huge catch and throw RPO team in to dead space... Obviously tighter coverage. There we may run simulated where we can play 3 match/3 lock principles & have tighter coverage and still really run the same pressure.
- "To me it's like Quick Game/RPO driven, if that's a huge thing they're doing off the run game, we want the tighter coverage (3 Lock Sim Pressure). If they're under center/wide zone, not running as many RPOs off of it, then I love running the same type of pressures but now 3 Deep/3 Under. Now you got 3 guys with vision to cap the runs & protect vs play action."
Seattle Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald - Attacking Protections with 5-0 Fronts
"Let's not even screw with the numbers, let's just standardize it. Let's get them to a 5-0 and make them respect that we're in a balanced formation and now let's dictate to them what they have to do. And then that way we can stay ahead of the eight ball."
"That's the most inexpensive thing to do (5-0 Games) and it's probably the hardest on offensive lines to pick up consistently."
Seattle Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald - Defending Buck Sweep/Pin & Pull
- "Anytime they're pulling guys... I'm either thinking create singles, create overlap & width of the defense. Or I'm thinking plug it up the middle with some sort of run through. If they want to pull guys all day long, well shoot just plug a guy, you might just run dang near right through there."
Seattle Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald - What Players Want
- "Players want to be coached. They want a connection. They want a coach that trusts/believes in them & to teach them the stuff that works. They want to be challenged but you have to build a relationship first to challenge guys the right way."

This kid has taken โthe stairsโ for three years, following others, and waiting for his moment to lead. He always works in silence and tries to be the best teammate first.
What a game last night young man!

A wise coach once said, "If you have to beg them to play, you will have to beg them to stay." You don't beg a Wolfe to hunt... The Standard is the standard.
